On behalf of the HK Phil, it gives me great pleasure to introduce to you our 52nd Season. This promises to be a remarkable season, in both the breadth of the repertoire that the orchestra will perform, and the outstanding level of conductors and soloists that the orchestra will welcome.
This year marks a new chapter in the orchestra’s history, as we welcome Maestro Tarmo Peltokoski as our Music Director Designate. We are very excited by both his vision and passion, and also the new directions in repertoire that he has planned for the orchestra. This season he performs three programmes, including our season finale, the orchestra’s first ever performance of Vaughan Williams’s magnificent A Sea Symphony.
We have an outstanding season of music planned, featuring a breadth of repertoire rarely performed in our hall. The renowned Esa-Pekka Salonen will join us as Composer-in-Residence – five of his compositions will be performed during the season, and he will conduct the Asia Premiere of his Horn Concerto with the acclaimed soloist Stefan Dohr. The orchestra will also perform the world premiere of Dani Howard’s Cello Concerto with our Principal Cello, Richard Bamping.
This season will see the orchestra work with some of the greatest conductors and soloists in the world. Our season opening concert will be conducted by Daniel Harding; Daniele Gatti will return to conduct Mahler 7; and we will welcome back Michael Sanderling, Kahchun Wong and Tan Dun. We will welcome again Lang Lang, the acclaimed violinist Leila Josefowicz, Anne-Sophie Mutter, and renowned Soprano Renée Fleming.
Before the season opening in Hong Kong, the orchestra will be touring in Europe, performing in Concertgebouw and at the festivals of Merano and Grafenegg with our former Music Director Jaap van Zweden.
None of this would be possible without the generous support of the orchestra’s many friends. We are deeply grateful to the HKSAR Government to their long-term support through the Cultural, Sports and Tourism Bureau and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department; to our Principal Patron, the Swire Group; to the Hong Kong Jockey Club, for supporting our education and outreach programmes, which are an essential part of the orchestra’s mission; and to the many sponsors, donors and audience members who support our work.
This season shows the orchestra at its best; bringing outstanding musicians in the world to our city to perform truly inspiring music. I thank you for your support, and look forward to seeing you at the concerts.
It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra’s 52nd Season as I embark on this exciting journey with you as Music Director Designate. This season, I will present three wonderful programmes, all featuring the extraordinary compositions of my dear friend and mentor Esa-Pekka Salonen, who will be joining us as Composer-in-Residence.
Salonen’s adventurous spirit and musical innovation have always inspired me, and I am thrilled to showcase his works this season. In December, I am excited to share the stage with the legendary Lang Lang as we perform Grieg’s beloved piano concerto. This collaboration marks a milestone for me, and I am eager to present a fully Nordic programme, starting with Salonen’s Castor, inspired by the twins Castor and Pollux in Greek mythology, followed by Sibelius’s epic Lemminkäinen suite. This rarely performed gem promises to leave a lasting impact on all who experience it.
In April 2026, I look forward to performing Salonen’s dynamic Violin Concerto with Leila Josefowicz, alongside Shostakovich’s violent 11th Symphony—an experience that is bound to be both intense and terrifying.
We will conclude the season in grand style with Salonen's Pollux, leading into Ralph Vaughan Williams's A Sea Symphony. This monumental choral work, featuring the HK Phil Chorus and the London Philharmonic Choir, as well as soloists Chen Reiss and Andrè Schuen, is a personal favourite of mine, and I can't wait to champion it with you.
I invite you to join us and find out what this season has to offer. Let’s explore the beauty of music together!

Community Concert Sponsorship
Music is an essential element in our lives, providing cultural nourishment. Sponsoring a free-admission community concert means that people from different walks of life can have the opportunity to enjoy great music.
The HK Phil is extremery grateful for the support of our partners and friends. Supporters will be acknowledged throughout the year. By supporting the HK Phil, you join a passionate network of individuals and organisations committed to nurturing and sharing the beauty of music with audiences worldwide.
The HK Phil is committed to bringing the joy of music to every member of society, regardless of background or age. Extending beyond the concert hall, our education and outreach activities reach more than 40,000 citizens, students and teachers annually, inspiring them and enriching their lives through our finest music-making.
Community Engagement
In the 2025/26 season, the HK Phil brings an array of outreach concerts and activities to communities throughout Hong Kong. These events take place in various venues across different parts of the city, offering an excellent and inspiring experience for everyone, especially those encountering classical music for the first time. These events include:
• “Swire Symphony Under the Stars”, an annual outdoor concert
• “Swire Music for Everyone” series
• Community concerts
• Pre-concert talks
• “ Happy Hour Classics” series in Hong Kong Cultural Centre Foyer
• Masterclasses
• Collaborations with Tai Kwun, HKU MUSE and HKUST
The HK Phil believes in the importance of nurturing Hong Kong musicians and developing audiences through a wide range of activities and schemes that enrich their concert-going experience.
HK Phil Community Concerts
The HK Phil holds free community concerts each year, bringing great music to communities from different districts. These concerts are open to audiences of all ages and backgrounds, offering the opportunity to experience worldclass orchestral performances.
The Robert H. N. Ho Family Foundation Hong Kong Composers Scheme (2018–2024) provided a vital platform for emerging HK composers to develop their skills in orchestral writing. Over its last three editions, the Scheme has supported 18 composers, offering them the opportunity to refine their craft under the guidance of esteemed international mentors.

JC Project MuSE is a school-based music (Mu) and sports (S) education (E) programme, initiated and funded by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. It offers free, highquality and tailored music and sports programmes to primary school children in the most impoverished areas of Hong Kong. It aims to develop children’s artistic and physical literacy and to enhance their positive whole-person development, emotional well-being and academic advancement, thereby endowing them with the best opportunities for future growth and development. JC Project MuSE is co-organised by Hong Kong Baptist University, SF&OC Sports Legacy, The Education University of Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.
Jockey Club TUTTI Programme
The Jockey Club TUTTI Programme (Turning Up Talents, Transforming Individuals) is the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra’s flagship education initiative, exclusively sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. Launched in the 2024/25 season, this three-year programme is designed to nurture local music talents through engagements with both international and local artists. Highlights include the “Jockey Club Masters Series” concerts, which bring world-renowned maestros to Hong Kong, along with comprehensive education programmes and interactive outreach activities. All education and school events are free, ensuring highquality musical experiences are accessible to all students, particularly those underserved. Join us in celebrating and fostering budding musicians, sowing the seeds for Hong Kong to become an international cultural hub!
The Young Audience Scheme aims to encourage local fulltime students aged 6–25 to attend concerts and experience the orchestral repertoire, with a hope to boost their interest in classical music. Membership offers HK Phil ticket discounts, rewards and a variety of activities, including open rehearsals and musical games.
