Message from the Chair of the Board of Managers On behalf of the Hong Kong International School Board of Managers, I am delighted to share with you this Report of Giving, highlighting the many achievements of the 2011-2012 school year. In this Report, you will find information about our student body, our faculty and staff, the 2012 Dinner Dance, and the operations and finances of the Annual Fund. Most importantly, the Report acknowledges the many individual parents, alumni, faculty and staff, and friends who donated to the 2011-2012 Annual Fund. Together, these donors contributed nearly HK$12,000,000 to HKIS – the highest amount raised since the Annual Fund’s inception in 2000. This support serves as a resounding endorsement of our school’s Mission and Student Learning Results. Also in this Report, you will find reports from the Parent Faculty Organization, the Booster Club and the HKIS Alumni Association. The volunteers who fuel these organizations are deserving of our thanks for all they do for our school. In addition, we take a moment to highlight some of the service work done by our students – from our youngest learners in Lower Primary on through to graduating seniors. The Annual Fund provides a major source of funding, enabling the school to provide a great many resources and programs that are not covered by tuition fees. Musical instruments, sports equipment, classroom technology, visiting scholars, funding for service projects, scholarships… these are just a few examples of ways the Annual Fund lifts HKIS above and beyond, all while keeping tuition increases as minimal as possible. And, because the actual cost of educating a student exceeds the cost of our tuition and fees, every HKIS student receives financial assistance from the Annual Fund. Gifts to the Annual Fund contribute to the successful accomplishment of our school’s Mission and Student Learning Results. My fellow Board members and I are immensely grateful for your support and engagement. We look forward to working together in the coming year to ensure our school and our students reach the highest possible heights.
