ACCESS IN ACTION – TRAILER & TRUCK MOUNTS

Truck and trailer mounts vs standard EWPs The benefits of working with trailer and truck mounted EWPS are numerous according to Uphire’s Business Services Manager, Ilsa Walsh. Ilsa said convenience, versatility and utmost safety are key benefits. Q: What are the benefits of having a truck/trailer mounted booms vs standard equipment? A: As technology innovates, the hire and rental industry moves towards newer products and expands to incorporate new designs. This sparks the debate on whether site managers should adapt to the change and try newer products or stick to what has served them for years with fantastic performance. While most tradespeople and workers prefer to trust what they know, traditional working solutions can limit productivity and maneuverability in completing a job efficiently and safely. Truck and trailer mounted booms are large powered access machines fitted with an articulating arm for completion of works that require ‘up and over’ access. Truck mounted booms are attached to a working truck, whereas the trailer mounted boom can be hooked onto the back of a working vehicle. These mounted booms provide convenience, versatility and utmost safety in areas where traditional equipment may fall short, making them a favourite among site managers.

Q: Where are Trailer Mounts and Truck Mounts better suited to work sites? A: For Truck Mounted Booms, this includes: • Large Distance Work Sites: Truck mounted booms are excellent solutions for when high volumes of work need to be carried out over a large distance. They are extremely mobile with no set up required, reducing the tedious task, or set up and pack up at each location that work needs to be carried out. • Freeways: A great advantage of truck mounted booms is its compact set up, whereby the outriggers go down inside the envelope of the truck, making it a compact and versatile option and a favourite among workers that operate in busy areas. Due to its arm not having to swing out to operate, the flow of transport can continue on roads and freeways without need for road closures. This improves traffic flow while ensuring maximum efficiency and safety. For Trailer Mounted Booms • Delicate or Unstable Terrain: With their lightweight design, the trailer mounted booms allow for work to occur on terrain or flooring that can’t handle a traditional

EWP machine. Fitted with spreader plates, the weight of the trailer mounted boom can be evenly distributed. • Low and Far: While most work site managers look for equipment that will lift workers to great heights, it’s also important to consider the outreach. Trailer mounted booms are exceptional for projects that require a lower level of work, but at a significant outreach. It’s also a compact chassis, allowing for it to fit through a conventional doorway and in tight spaces and then expand. “At Uphire, we source our truck mounted booms from Palfinger, which offer efficient performance, size, and reliability to any project. Our truck mounted booms are sourced through Nifty, which are exceptional for projects where great maneuverability and mobility is required due to certain work area and terrain constraints,” Ilsa said. “At Uphire, we are dedicated to finding the best equipment for your job site in order to have projects completed safely, within the allocated budget and on time. We are a family owned business with great customer service and competitive prices.” n Visit: www.UpHire.com.au

Retractable crane loading deck for jobs with limited space

ast West Engineering’s new retractable crane loading deck has been designed as the ideal solution for loading and unloading construction materials on smaller multi-storey construction projects. Designed by East West Engineering and certified to relevant Australian standards, the CCLP30-RD Retractable Crane Deck is a 3T crane loading platform that allows construction materials and equipment to be safely lifted on or off different levels by crane during construction or demolition. East West Engineering owner, Ron King said the retractable design allows vertical stacking of decks, simplifying delivery of materials through unrestricted access. “Its minimal overhang over the building of just 150mm increases the usable loading space when using multiple decks,” Ron said. “Featuring a 2.8m x 2.5m outboard suitable for up to two pallets, the new retractable crane loading deck will suit P40

smaller jobs with limited space and smaller loads. This lightweight deck can be easily rolled in and out by one operator for loading. “We designed this crane loading deck to minimise the overhang over the building to suit small construction sites,” Ron said. “With access to an affordable loading deck, now even smaller construction sites can benefit from the cost saving and increased productivity efficient handling of materials provides. Not to mention the safety aspect. “With cost playing a major role in the decision and affordability of every construction project, it is critical to manage productivity to ensure building works are completed in time and on cost.” n Contact: 1800 061 998 or visit: www.eastwesteng.com.au
