Full Time or Part Time
Although full-time study is still the most common choice for our students, we know that many of our postgraduates, for professional, family or financial reasons, prefer to take their degree course on a part-time basis. Candidates will be admitted to the Ph.D. programme under one of the following categories: a) Regular full time scholars with or without Institute fellowship or with project support. b) Research scholars who are staff members of our institute (Part time –Internal). c) Research scholars under the external registration programme (Part time – External) sponsored by and employed in industry/organisation having R & D facilities and recognised by DST or HITS, national laboratories, reputed universities/colleges or employed in research/analysis jobs in public sector/private sector/ government in the case of management areas. Entry Requirements
We are committed to appoint only the best candidates to our PhD programme. Applications are accepted based on their previous academic performance, quality of their research proposal and the availability of two suitable members of staff to supervise the chosen topic. To apply, the minimum educational qualifications for admission into the Ph.D. programme of HITS, is Master’s degree in an eligible discipline/ in relevant branch with a good academic record with first class or a minimum 55% marks.
Research Supervisor
Only a full time regular teacher of the HITS can act as a Supervisor. The external Supervisors are not allowed. However, Co- areas from other departments of HITS or from other related institutions with the approval of the Research Advisory Committee. The recognized supervisors working in public sector R&D organizations such as DAE, ISRO, DRDO can act as Co-Supervisors along with a Joint-Supervisor from HITS.
Research Proposal
All applications must include a research proposal. This indicates the area in which your research will be conducted and the key issues you would like to examine. You will need to demonstrate that you understand your chosen area and what postgraduate research entails, and have identified an interesting and original research question. Acceptance will be based on your academic ability and the availability of suitable supervisors. Duration of Programme
The duration of the programme is counted from the date of registration. The minimum duration for the full time doctoral programme will be 3 years and of part time 4 years. The maximum duration will be 6 years for both.
