The 70th Annual General Meeting of the Aeronautical Society of India and the National Conference on "Recent Developments in Aerospace and Defence Technology" with theme “Regional Transport Aircraft-Opportunities and Challenges” was conducted on 21 & 22 Feb. 2020. Thiru. Banwarilal Purohit, Hon’ble Governor of Tamil Nadu presided over the event as the Chief Guest and conferred awards. At the AGM held every year, eminent personalities in the realms of Aeronautics who have made a significant contribution in their field of specialization are honoured by the Society.

The School of Planning, Architecture and Design Excellence (SPADE) observed Chiaroscuro 2020-MIRAGE themed “Paradoxes in Architecture”, an Annual Symposium, to celebrate the yearly achievements of the department and bring in new insights to the students on 18 and 19 Sept. 2020. Prof. Marc Aurel Schnabel, Dean, Faculty of Architecture and Design, Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand delivered the Chief Guest address. Ar. AnoodhaKunnath, Alumnus, HITS, also a Film-maker, Curiouser presided as the Guest of Honour. “Mirage”, the Annual Department Magazine, was released during the inauguration by Mr. Ashok Verghese, Director, HITS. The magazine covered a wide range of thought-provoking Articles, intriguing Sketches, captivating Photographs and interesting Designs by the students and staff of SPADE. Mr. N. Venugopal, Head, Presales-India and SAARC, Checkpoint Software Technologies presided over BreakSec Workshop on “Ethical Hacking” conducted by Kruptos Security Club, Centre for Networking and Cyber Defense of Dept. of IT on 25 and 26 Sept. 2020. The event witnessed Technical Sessions by Mr. Nitin Umesh, Principal Consultant, Quick Heal Technologies Ltd.; Mr. Ayush Priya, DevSecOps Engineer, Appsecco; Mr. Puneet Mehta, Professional Cybersecurity & Risk Advisor; and Capture the Flag (CTF) contest for students.

Mr. Vaidyanathan J.R, Senior Vice President & Global Head, Business Intelligence & Analytics, Hexaware Technologies presided as the Guest of Honour and highlighted the interesting facts of the applications of artificial intelligence right from healthcare, Autonomous Vehicles, Image reconstruction.

AICTE sponsored Short-Term Training Programme on “Advanced Antenna and RF Technologies for 5G and IOT” was conducted in two phases: Phase 1 between 17 and 22 Aug. 2020; and, Phase 2 between 14 and 19 Sept. 2020. Mr. Suresh Gulati, Manager-GB, Airtel, New Delhi & Alumnus B.E. ECE (2005) presided as Guest of Honour. Dr. P. Hanumantha Rao, Scientist-F & Head, Microwave Communication & Antenna Division, SAMEER-CEM, Chennai gave a motivating talk regarding the 5G new radio systems and about the Government 5G project he was associated then. Mr. Giridharan, Principal Design Engineer, Urjitha Electronics, Chennai spoke on RF solutions in 5G infrastructure, and emphasized on the technologies required for 5G deployment and the scope of research in this field.

The Virtual Graduation Fashion Show of 2020 graduated batch of B.Sc. Fashion Design, Dept of Fashion Design & Arts, Razzle Dazzle, was conducted on 30 Oct. 2020 at HITS. Razzle Dazzle 6.0 showcased the vibrant collections of 30 students in beautiful colours and shades. The designer wears developed in wide range of white, dyed & printed cotton, silk, velvet, net, chiffon fabrics were showcased by the leading models. The show was curated and coordinated by the renowned Fashion Choreographer, Mr. Ganesh Gurung.

ISRO, Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikotta and School of Aeronautical Sciences, HITS; and Hindustan Innovation Factory, HITS; in association with AeSI Chennai Branch marked the centenary celebration of ISRO Founder and Space Father of India, Dr. Vikram Sarabhai on 12 and 13 Feb. 2020. The celebration comprised of space themed stalls by B. Tech. Aerospace students and a mobile ISRO exhibition consisting Rocket Models, Satellite Models, Launch Pads and Space Exploration details of ISRO.

SAEINDIA’s Aerospace Forum, in collaboration with SAE International, conducted a premier Aerospace Conference AeroCON 2020 themed “Flying Through Turbulence… Reimagining Aerospace Industry” on 5 & 6 November 2020. The conference aimed at bringing together Aerospace professionals to discuss the challenges and identify opportunities during and post COVID era for the entire Aerospace sector. A delegation led by Mr. Ashok Verghese, Director, Hindustan University, comprising 120 students and 18 faculty members represented Hindustan Group of Institutions.

International Social Business Students’ Forum
Students deemed it an honour to hear Professor Muhammad Yunus, Nobel Peace Laureate and the "Father" of Modern Microcredit, deliver Keynote address on “Role of Students Zeroing Poverty, Unemployment, and Net Carbon Emissions” during the Virtual International Social Business Students’ Forum 2020 hosted by Daffodil International University, Bangladesh. The event was organized on 26 Nov. 2020 in cooperation with Eurasian Universities Union and Eastern European University Association.
Team Kratos Ranks 3rd (Asia Pacific) in SAE Aero Design East 2020
Team "Kratos" comprising 14 members from the School of Aeronautical Sciences participated in the SAE Aero Design East 2020 under Advanced Class category which was organised at Florida Air Museum at Lakeland, USA between 6 and 8 Mar. 2020. The team secured 11th position at the International and 3rd in Asia Pacific level for the oral technical presentation. The team was fortunate to visit places like Lake Howard, Circle B Reserve, and Kennedy Space Centre.
The 13th season of BAJASAEINDIA 2020 was organized at NATRAX facility, Pithampur near Indore between 22 and 26 Jan. 2020. A whopping bulk of 282 teams accounting from IITs, NITs, RECs, and private engineering institutions registered; of which, 253 teams were qualified to manufacture their proposed design. The Stalwartz E Racing team cleared several rounds such as Cost Evaluation, Sales Presentation, Technical Inspection and Electrical Inspection and Brake Trial Test and scored a 92 on 100 in the Cost Report presentation: so far the highest amongst other E Vehicles; and received a prize money of Rs.40000/- and the “Cost Report Award”—the first podium moment for the team that has raised hopes for further victorious endeavours.

The Project Expo for Final Year Students organized by HITSAA served as a platform to enable Alumni interaction with University, faculty & students. Conducted between 8 and 13 July 2020, the Projects were judged based on innovation and creativity within IDP as well as utility of the Project for Industry/Academic or Society. The Jury Members comprised of HITSAA Office Bearers, Alumni from Industry, and around 16 External Members representing various sectors. A total of 75 Teams comprising 150 students across 15 departments presented their Projects through 13 exclusive MS Teams.

As many as 105 teams from different institutes displayed their prototypes at the Regional Convention of AICTE Chhatra Vishwakarma Award 2019 convened at HITS under eight categories comprising Energy, Water, Waste Management, Farm and Flock, Livelihood, Crop Waste Management, Value Addition to Rural Handicrafts and Agroindustry and Land. Aiming at promoting innovative spirit and scientific temperament for holistic development of society, the event was scheduled on 18 Dec. 2019.
