Claude and Uli, who owned and operated Hilton Head’s La Normandie Restaurant for ten years, now hold forth in their Moss Creek Village restaurant, just over the Hilton Head bridge. Chef Clause, a native of Normandie, France, has cooked in some of the world’s best kitchens, including Maxim’s in Paris, the Connaught (Chef Saucier) in London and Ernie’s in San Francisco. Culinary school graduate Uli orchestrates matters in the dining room, welcomes guests and makes them feel very much at home.
Claude and Uli’s uses only the freshest and highest quality ingredients to create the wonderful food for which they have received numerous accolades. Cahill’s Market and “Chicken Kitchen” is owned and operated by third and fourth generation Blufftonians. We are located on the scenic May River Road in Bluffton, South Carolina – one mile west of Historic Old Town. Located on property purchased by Grandma Cahill in 1918, we continue to be a working farm. In-season vegetables are grown throughout the year. Once harvested, the vegetables are sold in our country market and used in our home cooked dishes prepared in the “Chicken Kitchen.” Along with our own homegrown vegetables, Cahill’s Market stocks inseason produce from local and regional suppliers. We have a large selection of Vidalia Onion dressings, sauces and pickles. We also have a variety of jams and preserves along with farm-fresh brown eggs, stone-ground grits, hoop cheese, local honey and much more.

Ingredients: 8 ears corn Kosher salt Preparation: Heat the grill to medium.
Grilled Corn
Pull the outer husks down the ear to the base. Strip away the silk from each ear of corn by hand. Fold husks back into place, and place the ears of corn in a large bowl of cold water with 1 tablespoon of kosher salt for 10 minutes. Remove corn from water and shake off excess. Place the corn on the grill, close the cover and grill for 15 to 20 minutes, turning every 5 minutes, or until kernels are tender when pierced with a paring knife. Remove the husks and eat on the cob or remove the kernels.

Taste Restaurant & Lounge, located next to The Jazz Corner in The Village at Wexford, exudes elegance at every turn. Guests are greeted at the door with a stylish custom made water fountain. To the left is an elegant dining room with contemporary furniture and original artwork from Peter Karis, Peter Max and David Wendel. Custom-made glass chandeliers from Cynthia Levy hang from the ceiling. To the right of the water fountain is a lively lounge and a regal eight-person Chef’s Table. The unique decor of Taste Restaurant & Lounge sets the stage for chef Nick Fazio’s menu of imaginative contemporary Southern dishes. Many locals know Fazio from his time as executive chef of Robert Irvine’s eat! He was named Hilton Head’s best chef in Hilton Head Monthly’s 2012 Readers’ Choice Awards and is focused on using fresh, local seafood and produce. He is also overnighting fresh seafood, such as wahoo and tuna, from Hawaii. “We want to be the best restaurant on this island,” Miller said. “We want to be the restaurant everybody wants to come to with the best chef, the best service and the best ambiance.” The drink menu features an extensive list of California wines, many available by the glass, to go with classical contemporary cocktails. Happy hour is 5-7 p.m. Monday through Friday in the lounge area. Robert Murray and Chef Gary Langevin have opened Hilton Head Island’s newest authentic Italian grill, overlooking the marina at Shelter Cove Harbour. La Fontana Waterfront Grill & Pizzeria is serving up lunch and dinner, seven days a week. Chef’s specials include lamb rack & wild mushroom risotto, lobster ravioli allo scorlia and filet mignon. Gourmet personal pizzas and calzones are also

served.“It’s the most authentic Italian you can get,” Langevin said. “We’re all Italians and we make everything in-house. I only use the freshest ingredients. It takes time to mince garlic, but I don’t buy anything in jars. All of our herbs are fresh and we buy everything local.” The friendship between Murray and Chef Langevin is the perfect culinary blend between food, passion and business. Murray’s successful business career allowed him to dine at some of the world’s finest restaurants. His culinary passion eventually led to him to purchase two large restaurants in the New England area. After he relocated to Hilton Head in 2004, he decided to open a restaurant in the Lowcountry. During one of his many trips to Charleston, he ate at a restaurant where Langevin was the chef. The two hit it off immediately and an epicurean relationship was formed. In October 2013, Murray purchased Little Venice at Shelter Cove and called on Chef Langevin to help turn it into an outstanding Italian restaurant. Experienced executive chef Giuseppe Galone, an accomplished chef in Italy and Miami, was also added to the staff. Murray, Langevin, Galone and the rest of their team strive to offer a tremendous dining experience, based on great food and superior service. To describe the cuisine, they say, “From the Old Country to the Lowcountry.” Hours are 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Mon.-Sat., and 11 a.m.-9 p.m. on Sunday.
Lucky Rooster Kitchen + Bar
Clayton Rollison has a vision. The 33-year-old chef has spent 20 years learning, honing his craft and carrying out other chef’s visions. Now, as the owner of the Lucky Rooster Kitchen + Bar, Rollison is unwavering in his pursuit of a truly unique Hilton Head dining experience – even as many on the island doubt his approach. “I’ve been told for years that what I’m doing isn’t going to work, but we’re attempting to carve out a niche as a truly original place to dine,” Rollison said. “There’s a combination of comfort foods and adventure that I want to present to our customer. There’s steak, there’s chicken, but we’ve had octopus as a staple since day one. And we have a seared foie gras with apples, walnuts toast and sweet potato. So we’re challenging folks to step outside of their palette comfort zone.”

The menu at Lucky Rooster is 25 percent adventurous, 50 percent of what Rollison’s signature seasonal progressive Southern food and 25 percent standards. It all works out to an American bistro with a Southern soul. The staff prints their menus in-house to have as much flexibility with mixing and matching dishes. Rollison lights up when he talks about his slow-cooking approach and about ingredients, like the short rib dish. “We make them with a tonkatsu sauce with a mix of fruits and vegetables that creates a sweetness and gives the ribs a real depth of flavor,” he said. He’s equally passionate about the drinks his staff offers. Rollison researched some of the most legendary mixologists like Jerry Thomas to come up with the restaurant’s craft cocktails, like the Moscow Mule – a 1941 John G. After working in local restaurants for more than 20 years, Jennifer and Aaron Dempsey decided to open their own place -- an Italian bistro and pizzeria called Orobello’s. Named after Jennifer’s grandparents, the restaurant specializes in fresh, homemade Italian cuisine infused with southern hospitality. Each pizza is hand-tossed. “We make our own dough,” Jennifer Dempsey said. “We never use anything frozen. Everything that we use is the highest quality ingredients. We don’t use any processed or canned items for our vegetables. When you get a mushroom pizza from us, you’re getting portobello mushrooms. When you get broccoli, it’s fresh-stemmed broccoli. We don’t cut corners.” Orobello’s is located in Buckwalter Place, between Palm & Moon Bagel and Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant. “It’s a great spot in a great location, and who doesn’t love pizza?,” Chris Gregory said. “It’s a family friendly restaurant.” For Chris, it’s a return to his college days. He owned a pizza place on campus at the University of Massachusetts and has brought the same concept to the island. “We’re going to focus on the real thin crust, like a St. Louis style pizza,” Gregory said. “We are also going to do a Sicillian style with a thick crust.” Dough Boys is offering three types of crust, all made from scratch, and three different styles of sauce. Each pizza will also have a unique cheese blend. The Gregorys have also renovated their building, which used to be Bravo Pizza. They’ve added a restroom to make it more dine-in friendly. A new Lebanese restaurant is opening this spring. Mediterranean Harbour Bar & Grill will be serving authentic Lebanese steaks, seafood and vegan cuisine with gluten-free appetizers. The Sea Shack
The Sea Shack, an Island favorite for fresh seafood in an unassuming atmosphere, recently underwent renovations. The 12,000 square foot multi-functional ballroom at Hilton Head Beach & Tennis Resort has been renovated. The ballroom has been re-painted, wall features were added, the ceiling was replaced and some of the ceiling lighting has been changed. Big Bamboo
A few big changes have come to The Big Bamboo Café. The popular restaurant and bar has expanded its outside deck on the second level of Coligny Plaza, adding about 50 feet to the front of the restaurant. Management also decided to upgrade its menu, focusing on fresh seafood items. The restaurant hired a team of culinary experts to help revamp the menu. Many fried items have been replaced with healthier grilled options, such as chargrilled chicken tacos. The appetizers and side items are also more sophisticated, from blue cheese coleslaw to citrus cerviche.

Captain Woody’s has moved to a new Hilton Head Island location.
