Sad News About William...

We were incredibly sad when our beloved William, the Shire horse, died at the grand old age of twenty five. We all knew William was advanced in years but as the longest serving heavy horse on our adoption scheme, it really did feel as though he would live forever. William arrived at Hillside in 1999 after being rejected by his previous owner due to his slightly imperfect movement. However, to us he was completely perfect in every way and he certainly stole the hearts of all the staff and visitors to Hillside Shire Horse Sanctuary at West Runton where he lived. William was a true gentleman who loved to meet his adoring public on Open Days. He also made many horsey friends and of course, he was particularly bonded with his special companion,Striker.

We are pleased to say the Council’s round up went well and 40 goats were safely moved to Hillside, where they can now live happily together for the rest of their natural lives.

We were glad to be able to help the Town Council, who wanted the best outcome for the goats and, although they don’t have quite the same freedom to roam that they were used to in Devon, they are still able to breathe the sea air in their new home at Hillside Shire Horse Sanctuary at West Runton the Norfolk coast!
