In the 28 years since I founded Hillside, times have changed and we have gone from 20 acres of land in 1995 to now in 2023, where we have several Sanctuary farm locations across Norfolk I intended Hillside to be mainly a campaigning organisation, but with so many animals in need, we now have well over 4000 residents of all shapes and sizes to care for We have been able to help farmers who have come to realise that they no longer want to send their cows and goats to slaughter. We also responded to the Horse Crisis by taking in hundreds upon hundreds of horses over the last 10 years that had been abandoned and otherwise would have had their lives ended in stray pounds. We now care for more horses than any other sanctuary in the UK.

I have noticed over the last few years a growing public awareness of how our society’s treatment of farmed animals not only adversely affects the animals themselves, but also our health and the health of our planet. I am proud of our achievements highlighting the terrible conditions factory-farmed animals are forced to endure. It’s important to me that we continue doing what we can to shine a light on the cruelty of factory farms - hopefully to change how animals are treated by our and future generations. I am incredibly grateful to you, our supporters, whose kindness and compassion have enabled us to continue to provide feed and care for so many rescued animals at the Sanctuary while continuing with our important campaigning work.

Recent events around the world and the ensuing ‘cost of living crisis’ are unfortunately now having an alarming effect on the donations we are receiving. I completely understand that people are only able to donate when they have some spare pennies to send. Many people are not even sure how they are going to pay their energy bills and so it’s hardly surprising that the level of donations we are receiving is falling. However, I would ask that people please remember us. These are difficult times and there may be more to come before things get better - now more than ever, anything you can spare will make an important difference and be very very gratefully received.
