FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are the bus times?

The buses will arrive on campus between 8:15 – 8:25 a.m. each morning and depart campus at 3:30 p.m. each day. A second afternoon bus run departs at 5:00 p.m. from Monday to Thursday (with some exceptions). These times are subject to traffic flow.

How many bus routes are there?

We are anticipating 31 routes plus three charters for the 2025-2026 school year. Approximately 1250 students are given a bus route.

Where can I see my bus route?

Our transportation catchment areas can be viewed at hsc.on.ca/busroutes

At what age can my child ride the bus?

Students as young as those enrolled in one of our Early Education three-year-old programs (M3 or PK3) may access our bus system. Students who are of age will automatically be routed to a bus with the address shared during enrolment.

What is a bulk drop off?

To accommodate the time and turn around for some of our buses to meet our 5:00 p.m. bus run, a centrally located delivery stop may be in place for Monday to Thursday on early bus runs.

Please note all students are welcome to stay in programming until 5:00 p.m., at which time all stops on our routes are completed.

What happens on Friday’s when there is no late bus?

On Friday’s, and occasionally on other days throughout the school year, there are no 5:00 p.m. late buses. Instead students will follow the no-late run bus schedule.

What time should my child be at the bus stop?

We expect students to be at the stop five (5) minutes before their scheduled route time. We also expect students to board the bus five (5) minutes prior to their departure time.

What if my child misses the bus?

If your child misses the bus and you cannot drive your child in, you can contact a member of our transportation team to arrange a ride. We will do our best to ensure your child makes it to campus.

At what age can my child be dropped off without being met by a parent/guardian?

We do not permit students in Grade 4/M9 and under to be dropped off without an adult present. Students in Grades 5–8 can be dropped off without an adult present if we have written permission from the family.

What happens if my child leaves something on the bus?

All of our drivers will get to know your children quite well over the course of the school year. If your child misplaces or leaves something behind, they should ask their driver the next time they are on the bus and the driver will direct them. If the driver isn’t aware of the item, our transportation office has a lost and found.

My child has a severe allergy to nuts. How are snacks monitored on the bus?

HSC has a zero tolerance policy with regards to eating on our buses. Drivers are very diligent with monitoring this. All of our drivers are actively trained in first aid and epipen administration.

How can I trust the bus is safe?

All of our drivers are trained and professional bus drivers. We are inspected by the Ministry of Transportation regularly. Quarterly status license checks are run each year. All drivers are subject to an on-route road evaluation performed by a professional instructor or Driver Education team member. Drivers are required to attend safety workshops throughout the school year.

What do we do if there is an issue on the bus?

As part of our training program, all drivers have been trained in student management.

Conduct or Incident reports are provided to each driver in the event further support is required from either the Manager of Transportation or a Principal or Vice Principal.

Who monitors my child getting off and on the bus at the school?

HSC has on-duty teachers to greet our buses in the morning to ensure the little ones are taken into the College. For the afternoon routes, the teachers are required to bring them down to buses and are on duty until all buses have departed the College. The Transportation Manager or designate is also on-site for dismissal.

How do I know my bus will be late for my morning pick-up time or afternoon drop-off time?

If a route is running more than 10 minutes behind regular scheduled time, a member of the Transportation Department will send out an email blast to the applicable parents for that route.

If you would like to track your children’s bus, we highly recommend that you subscribe to the GPS application called Trackem
