KINDERGARTEN 1 & 2 Hillel Academy, in partnership with parents, seeks to develop the individual child in terms of their cultural, social, emotional and intellectual learning and set the foundations for future success. Our aim is to ensure that every child enjoys their first experiences at school by providing a stimulating, safe and nurturing environment in which each child learns through play and is able to do so at their own pace. The school uses an integrated thematic approach, which makes learning relevant to the world in which our children live. The assessment process is ongoing. It involves strategies that support the development of a positive view of self so that children grow in confidence and develop an assured belief in their ability to succeed at school. Information from these assessments is used by parents and teachers to support the child’s learning and development.

VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS Hillel boasts a thriving Visual and Performing Arts programme which runs from Kindergarten 1 through to Grade 13. Students are encouraged to explore art forms from around the world and from different times. Most of the time this exploration is practical in nature, and often we benefit from the wider community who come into school to share their skills with us. Students reflect and respond to their learning in a variety of ways: Practical, oral and written. Of course, the arts wouldn't be the arts without students also creating and performing! You will see their work displayed all around the school and class groups are regularly acting, singing and dancing in assemblies and concerts. In the high school all students study music, drama and visual art and then in Grade 10 they may choose one of the three to study for examination at IGCSE. We offer all three arts disciplines for study at pre-University level as part of the IB Diploma Programme.

VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS As well as class groups, we encourage students with a particular interest in the arts to join in with our rich and varied cocurricular programme. This programme builds specialist skills that we cannot teach within the day-to-day curriculum, allowing students with a particular talent to be challenged and extended. It also allows students who just really enjoy making art to have extra time in smaller, more focused groups. Our co-curricular offerings range from the Honour Choir, art and craft clubs, various drama groups and productions, dance in many forms and the Ensemble and Orchestras. Hillel is a member of the International Schools Theatre Association and we attend overseas theatre festivals. Instrumental lessons are also available. All students are nourished by the arts, no matter their abilities, and we welcome everyone who wishes to be involved.

TESTIMONIALS

When we first came to Hillel Academy, we were welcomed by the friendly smiles of staff, teachers and parents. We fell in love at first sight and I told myself that this is where we belong. Our son never felt like a 'new' kid… he just fitted right in with no problems at all… the transition went very smoothly for him. Thank you so much Hillel Academy for accepting us and making us feel part of the big Hillel family. We will treasure you. The Parua Family from Papua New Guinea (2012 – 2016)

TESTIMONIALS

Our Hillel experience began when our fifteen year old daughter, a student of St. Andrew High School for Girls, announced that she wanted to complete the IB programme. An interview at Hillel reinforced her ambition and convinced us that this was the right school to take on such a challenge. The two years of IB flew by, and yes it was very challenging, but with the impeccable level of support provided by Hillel, she achieved her goal, successfully completing the programme ‘with flying colours’. A key aspect of our Hillel experience was the meticulous level of support and guidance in choosing and securing the most appropriate course and university. She is now in her second year of a BSc in Wildlife Conservation at the University of Kent, in the UK. We have now embarked on a new chapter in our Hillel story, with the recent transfer of our thirteen year old son, where the smaller class sizes and genuine enthusiasm from his new teachers have re-ignited his passion for learning.

TESTIMONIALS

“

As a Jamaican Family our choice of school was deliberate as we wanted a school with international accreditation which would allow our son a better opportunity to study abroad in addition to the multi cultural environment to which he would be exposed. The high academic standards for which Hillel is known along with small class sizes and clean and friendly environment were also additional reasons for our choice. He started from K1 in the Prep School and transitioned seamlessly to the High School where he will continue and complete the IB programme. He has, through the care, understanding and nurturing showed to him by all teachers and staff through the years, developed into this mature, independent, polite and confident young man. We have been blessed by the honest and open way the teachers/staff at Hillel have interacted with him and by extension us, with the smallest of obstacles being overcome with patience and time. The ease with which I can communicate with teachers, principal and admin staff is remarkable.

I have no angst while my son is at school should I be running late for pickup or to leave him there for extracurricular activities. I am secure in the knowledge that he's safe and well supervised. The entire Hillel community is a wonderful atmosphere for any child to be exposed to. From the security guards, canteen staff, grounds staff and entire administration, they have all taken the time to know him and support him throughout his years there. I have enjoyed and continue to enjoy being part of the Hillel family.
