Foundation Board of Directors
word of thanks from our Foundation Chairman I am very pleased to announce the establishment in September 2010 of the High Point Regional Health System Foundation, a private 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. While fundraising has been conducted successfully for many years in support of High Point Regional, it has become increasingly more critical in recent years as cost reduction pressures have mounted from all sides. In order to effectively meet the challenge of gaining more philanthropic support, our Executive Director, Denise Potter, and the newly formed Foundation Board of Directors set out to make our Foundation a reality. Our entire health system greatly appreciates their achievement in reaching this goal.

Staff In order to properly announce our new Foundation and to better inform its supporters, we decided that this new era of the High Point Regional Health System Foundation should be marked with a new quarterly magazine. As a result, you are now reading the first issue of Giving Life, Health & Hope. This launch edition includes a pictorial of several events and activities that have occurred throughout the year in support of the hospital. In upcoming editions we will be covering compelling testimonials and stories from both patients and clinicians about how your contributions to High Point Regional are making a powerful impact on those served by our hospital. I want to sincerely thank you for keeping High Point Regional strong and for helping to make it the hospital that it is today. We are deeply appreciative of your interest and ongoing financial support and look forward to bringing you exciting news about High Point Regional in future editions of our Foundation magazine.

Touching Lives…. The gift that keeps on giving The holidays are fast approaching. It’s a time of giving and receiving and if you aren’t sure of what to give to family, friends or business associates on your list …consider making a contribution to your community hospital. Your gift can be made in recognition or in honor of someone special.
We wish to thank our dedicated volunteers who have served on the High Point Regional Health System Foundation Board and have rotated off this year: Dottie Keever, Coy Williard, Susan McMichael & Dr. Paul Coughlin. The following individuals are joining the High Point Regional Health System Foundation Board effective October 2010.
That’s the message that David Moore, MD & Candy Fenn, annual fund volunteers of the High Point Regional Health System Foundation, are sending in the hope that everyone will consider placing the hospital in their year-end giving plans.

The annual Pink Ribbon luncheon held in May generates proceeds to provide assistance to women, friends and family, who are faced with a recent diagnosis of cancer. This year’s event, hosted by the High Point Regional Health System Foundation, galvanized women throughout the region to support the Health System’s efforts in raising over $37,000 to support CancerFitt, a 12-week Fitness program

The beat goes on! The “heart beat” that is, as the 24th annual Warren Rives 5K Run/Walk and Fun Run took place on the morning of Saturday, September 18, 2010. Over 400 runners and walkers took part in this important event to benefit Heart Strides. Heart Strides is a High Point Regional program which provides cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation to patients who have experienced a cardiac or pulmonary event or medical procedure. Thanks to the generosity of our runners and sponsors over $26,700 was directed to help benefit many patients who otherwise would be unable to pay for our Heart Strides program this year! The Rives Race is named in memory of Warren Rives, Jr., a former hospital Board Member who died of a heart attack at the age of 41 in 1990. (Rives family members were present at this year’s race and are featured in the photograph above.) The annual 3.1-mile road race and 1-mile fun run is held the third Saturday in September every year.
