SUMMER SHOWS ROYAL HIGHLAND SHOW Thursday 23rd - Sunday 26th June, 2022 Judge: Donald MacNaughton After a two-year break, the Royal Highland Show made its return over the course of Thursday 23rd to Sunday 26th June. Judged by Donald MacNaughton of the Rannoch Fold, the event drew a terrific number of Highland Cattle.

Standing in reserve to Gusgurlach was 2-year-old Alice of Hunters. Alice was also Champion Female and will now make her way to the Great Yorkshire Show. This beautiful Jura 3rd of Thaggnam daughter, out of Alice Seonag 12th of Glengorm, bred & exhibited by Stephen & Rosemary Hunter, Hunters fold and ably shown by Laura Hunter. In reserve for the Female Championship was the 2-yearold Fern 2nd of Black Glen from Grant Hyslop, Black Glen Fold. This young heifer was sired by Eoin Mhor of Black Glen, and her dam is Fern 2nd of Ardentraive. Reserve Male Champion was Morag Middleton’s Eoin Mhor of Black Glen. Purchased at the February bull sales, where he was Champion Aged Bull and was bred by Grant Hyslop. Sired by Eoin Mhor 8th of Mottistone and dam Ban Righ of Mottistone.

Gusgurlach of Balmoral.

The star of the show was the 3-year-old Gusgurlach of Balmoral, who also reigned supreme at last year’s Royal Highland Showcase event returned and was tapped out by Donald as his Overall Champion. This Tomintoul of Glamis Castle son and out of Bhadair Ruadh 44th of Balmoral, was bred by Her Majesty The Queen and expertly shown by Dochy Ormiston.

Brogach Ruadh Murphy of Seam

Junior Champion, was 15-month-old Brogach Ruadh Murphy of Seam, bred & exhibited by Simon & Emma Haley, Seam Fold. Murphy had also secured the title of Junior bull earlier in the event. Sired by Brogach of Gilden Vale and his dam a homebred female - Margaret of Seam. Standing in reserve for the Junior Male Championship was Alan Kennedy’s 2-year-old Lord Mosscastle 3rd of Goldenberry, sired by Lord Mosscastle 2nd of Ardbhan and out of a homebred dam Cannach 5th of Goldenberry. Owned & bred by Alan Kennedy Goldenberry Highland Cattle. Junior Female went to the 13-month old Cuailean 1st of Isle of Bute, bred & exhibited by R & E McMillan, Isle of Bute Fold. This cracking young female is sired by Bob of Isle of Bute and her dam is Cuailean 2nd of Teaghlach. The final reserve of the day was 16-month-old Banrigh 14th of Hyndford, who took the title of Reserve Junior Female Champion. Bred & exhibited by Alan Prentice, Hyndford Fold, and was sired by Alasdair 4th of Douglas. Her dam is the homebred Banrigh 8th of Hyndford.
