Sports Leaders Learner of the Year Award 2020

Every year Sports Leaders UK receive many nominations for their Learner of the Year Award, all of which contain huge merit and demonstrate the outstanding journeys that all learners complete.

We are delighted to announce that Holly (Y13) has made the selection to be a finalist in the East Midlands and Humberside Learner of the Year Award 2020 and goes on to be a finalist for the national title - congratulations Holly this is fantastic news!

Highfields Netball

Miss Tabbenor wanted to say a huge well done to the year 7 & 8 netball team.

You all have improved so much over the short time training together this year, the determination you all had going into each game, the consistency of turning up each week to practice and supporting one another so you can all be the best you can, was incredible to see each week.

The year 7 team - you amazed me on the resilience you had from starting with a few defeats to becoming unbeatable yourselves, a special mention to Phoebe R the captain of this team for always encouraging your team to get the win in each game.

The Year 8’s - well, first of all what a team you are! From only losing one game from September until March is astonishing, you have such a great team bond and the encouragement and fight you show on court is a pleasure to watch, a special mention to Freya R the captain of this team for always being so supportive of your team and encouraging your team to be the best that they can be. Unfortunately we didn’t get to show our great work at the County Tournament this year, but we did have a great result in the Local Netball Tournament finishing 2 nd place and losing the final by 1 goal. If you didn’t manage to catch yourselves on Sky sports during the ‘National Sports Week’ your Netball Video was showed, which is a great achievement and you all should be so proud of yourselves for making it on to Sky Sports.

I am so incredibly proud of you all and all your achievements and you make Highfields proud, I can’t wait to hopefully see you all back on the court in September, but until then I hope you have a great Summer holidays and keep safe.

The Rural Derbyshire School Sport Partnership have been working with Active Derbyshire on virtual challenges during lockdown. The final resource of the summer term provides a number of activities for students and families to access over the summer holidays.

Each resource pack has simple descriptions and images of all the challenges, a brief history of the sport, some research tasks as well as literacy and numeracy; along with links to Governing Body of sport websites for additional information. There are a number of challenges to complete and a new challenge has been issued each week focusing on a different sport.
