Last Friday our year 12 level 3 sports leaders had their second planning session with Active Schools manager Chris Bethell.

This session saw the students break into pairs and take on differing roles in preparation for the Commonwealth Games Legacy event to be held in June. The year 12 leaders have control of this event and will be directing leaders from Anthony Gell during the event.

Y11 sports leaders

Year 11 level 2 sports leaders took part in their final verification session. They very ably led year 5 pupils from Lea Primary in Kwik Cricket activities.

Very well done to Harry B, Jamie L , Roma H, Eleanor H, Sophie H, Jasmine J, Lydia L and Georgina L. Mrs Hill from Lea Primary said the students were excellent, very confident and well organised.

Our IV assessor was Mr Shirtcliffe who commented on how much progress had been made from the November IV session 1 to now. Our students can be very proud of their achievements.

Mrs Allen is now looking forward to taking this group in the sixth form for their level 3 qualification.

Sports Leaders ‘Learner of the Year’

We can announce that Amy D in year 13 has been shortlisted for Sports Leaders UK ‘Learner of the Year 2022’.

Amy must now submit a video to the awards panel by the end of May, outlining her journey and the impact sports leaders has had upon her life. Then we sit and wait…. but we want to congratulate Amy who has gone over and above the requirements for the level 3 qualification, leading many hours coaching in the community for both football and cricket.

FA Girls

On Monday the year 8 and 9 FA Girls group had their ‘reflect’ session MS Teams meeting with our FA ambassador, Montell Douglas, GB Sprinter and GB Bobsleigh.

They can be praised for the way they conducted themselves and they have done brilliantly in sessions with KS3 girls playing football since January.

Well done to Keeley, Taylah, Ruby, Charlotte, Sophie, Chloe in year 7 and Charlotte and Lily in year 8.

Stuart Rudkin from Darley Dale Cricket Club was in school on Tuesday training our sports leaders on how to officiate the new kwik cricket event, Dynamos Cricket.

The group did well picking up the techniques required and they will be in action at the Highfields Cluster Primary School Tournament next week at Darley Dale Cricket Club.
