Sports leaders at Busy Bees Nursery
Last Friday our year 13 level 3 sports leaders had a fantastic session at Busy Bees Nursery in Matlock, as did Mr Shirtcliffe and Mrs Allen. The young 3 and 4 year olds thought hide and seek and catching adults was great fun, especially locking adults up in jail! We would have loved to show you photos of this, but we did not have permissions for photos of the nursery children so we have shown our leaders outside the nursery instead.

The year 13’s showed how responsible they are and their ability to adapt their skills to meet the needs of this very young age group - they were a credit to the school.
The nursery are now looking forward to the year 12 level 3 leaders going again on Friday 18 March.

Your Time Programme
On Tuesday Mrs Allen attended the Sports Leaders UK ‘Your Time’ webinar as we begin the competition project around girls.

Your Time is an inspirational programme designed to encourage girls in schools to participate in competitive sport and sports leadership opportunities.
Funded by the Department for Education, the Your Time programme aims to create opportunities for girls to participate in competitive sport. It is supported and implemented via the Sports Leadership learning and development programme for girls aged 14-16 where learners are empowered to create competitive sport opportunities for their peers.
Primary school Young Ambassadors assemblies
Young Ambassador assemblies in primary schools has started again following half term. On Monday the assembly was led by Esther (year 9) at Darley Churchtown in the morning and by Jenson and Martha (year 9) at Wessington in the afternoon. Tuesday’s assembly saw Jack, Jenson and Jessica (year 9 ambassadors) leading at Winster Primary.

On Wednesday 9 March the Let Girls Play biggest ever football session took place nationally and Highfields grasped the opportunity to be a part of this. There were 90,000 take part across the country. Girls in their PE lessons from both sites had their sessions on the all weather pitch. The sessions were led by the year 8, 9 and 10 FA Girls Go Lead group, SSP assistant and football coach Max Marshall. We were also lucky enough to have goalkeeper Claire White and striker Miss Paley join us, both representing Chesterfield FC Women’s First Team as guest players and role models for the girls to feel inspired by.
It was brilliant to start the day with a personal video message from Julie Grundy; Academy Manager at Liverpool Women’s Football Club to inspire the girls and educate them on the many pathways they can take to be involved in the growing game of female football. Julie is a fantastic role model as a former Leeds United and Doncaster Belles player, Coach and FA ambassador. We hope the girls felt excited and inspired by this message, prior to their day of coaching, playing football and celebrating the aim to grow greater participation in girls football opportunities for all our girls here at Highfields.
Finally, Miss Paley and Mrs Allen want to congratulate each and every one of the girls who made the day the great success that it was! Their energy, enthusiasm and attitude throughout the whole day was superb. Mrs Allen said “we felt very proud of the contribution they made as individuals and as a school. Here’s to achieving many more celebration days for girls’ footballers here at Highfields and continuing to pledge commitment towards #GrowingGirlsFootballinSchools”.
