Girls Judo progress

On the last day of term our year 7/8 girls’ PE groups were treated to a masterclass from coach Andy Parton and GB development squad player 13 year old Ruby during their Friday PE lessons. Ruby was on Rotherham half term holidays so was able to join us.

The girls have made massive progress in Judo throughout this year. R2 and R3 rewards have been awarded throughout the six week spring term block. The girls have really enjoyed these sessions and coach Andy is looking to invite any student to train in Judo at the Arc Leisure Centre on Thursday evenings from 5-6pm - start date to be announced.

Primary School Sports

On Wednesday our primary school sports evenings started for South Darley Primary School.

Highfields sports leaders were coaching under the guidance of Mr Shirtcliffe. Well done to Maia, Sophie, Emily, Hanna and Isla.

See next week’s newsletter for more details.

Cricket scorers needed

Matlock and Cromford Cricket Club require a Scorer for the 2022 season. The ideal candidate must have an interest in cricket, and ideally have taken the ECB introductory online Scorer's Course.

Matches start on 23 April, a twenty two match season, until 17 September, mostly on Saturday's but with an occasional Sunday. Attendance is expected from 12.15pm at the venue of the match (eleven home, eleven away).

A new electronic scoreboard will be operational for home matches, but that is unlikely at away grounds throughout North Derbyshire and one visit into South Yorkshire.

Duties will include agreeing totals with the opposing team's scorer, liaising with Umpires, and presenting a completed scorebook to the Captain at the game's end, which will be around 7pm, though sometimes earlier.

A fee of £30 per game is offered, paid by transfer on the day of the game, or by cash if agreed. Please contact Ray Mullaney at 53raymull@gmail.com for further details.
