Saying “Yes” to A Life Filled with Joy

M

y mom did not get to come to my wedding.

I understood but wished she could have been there. My dad, whom I hardly knew, walked me down the aisle. I really wanted it to be my grandfather. I got married in January, and a blizzard stopped several special people who lived out of town from coming. And on our honeymoon, the cook couldn’t get to the hotel because the roads were so bad. The manager cooked our meals, which all looked suspiciously the same. Despite the layers of issues, my goal was to celebrate the family and friends who were there. And later, we laughed about our gourmet meals! I wasn’t there to watch my daughter say “Yes” to the dress. She found it while shopping with her maid of honor. I did love the dress as it was absolutely beautiful, but it didn’t go as I planned. Diamond earrings get lost. A bridesmaid forgets her dyed to match shoes. Uncle Ralph seems to have started on the punch – before the ceremony! And the cake is tilting a little bit to the left… Author, Paula Shumaker O’Donnell Here is what I know for sure: writes “Monday Motivation” for businesses, individuals, and publications such as “Guideposts Magazine,” “Mysterious Ways,” “Angels on Earth,” and “Woman’s World.” Visit her website at theworldneedsyou. com or email mycoachpaula@ aol.com

There is no perfect wedding. Instead, what is at the heart of every wedding is the celebration of the love between bride and groom. And all the wonderful – but imperfect - family, friends or circumstances. And later, it is often the imperfections that bring laughter and special memories. Love is not perfect. Weddings usually aren’t either. But if you focus on the joy and the love and not the imperfections – then you can say, “Yes to the dress” – and a life filled with joy.
