Healthy Eating at the Holidays As we gather around the holiday table with family and friends, here are a few tips for making healthier holiday meal choices! Enjoy! Hints and Suggestions 1.

Don’t try to lose weight during the holidays.

2. Don’t starve yourself. 3. Eat slowly. 4. Eat before going to the mall and plan shopping so you don’t pass the Cinnabon store! 5. Eat regular meals the day of a party and have a healthy snack before you go. 6. Stand more than an arm’s length away from the munchies! 7. Survey the buffet and choose the foods you want to eat. 8. Use a dessert size plate at parties and pick the “special” foods you don’t get every day. 9. Avoid excess alcohol and snacks. 10. Enjoy small portions of the foods you really want. 11. If you over eat at one meal, go lighter at the next. 12. It is impossible to gain weight from one piece of pie! 13. Plan activities with family and friends that aren’t all about food. 14. Bring a healthy dish to the holiday gathering. 15. Use a teaspoon for serving to keep serving sizes smaller. 16. At a sit down dinner, be the last to start eating and sit next to a healthy eater. 17. Fill ½ your plate with fruits and vegetables. 18. Instead of making cookies, make non-edible projects such as a wreath or ornament. 19. Cut back on sugar hiding in foods, such as salad dressings, tomato sauce and bread. Then have cookies or candy a couple of times a 4
