UPDATES AND REmINDERS
RECENTLy THE NZFIA CEO has been in discussions with Competenz, looking at possible involvement in the management of forklift training not unlike how HIANZ manages Silvercard EWP Trainers and the programme. This is a major step forward for the association and will give the association the boost that it needs. The current system through Competenz lacks moderation and trainee data management for applying a refresher system like the Silvercard programme. It is the view of the association that the forklift training needs strengthening in credibility and a pathway to proper learning and refreshment of competency. We feel industry is best to manage this and as the peak body for forklifts, we are in the best position to manage it. The NZFIA AGM has suffered at the hands of COVID twice now and has recently gone electronic in its requirement to hold it. An election buddy process has been adopted and an expected close of the AGM is mid-November. Nothing too much is in their AGM, but once finalised, the board will be pushing forward on membership drive and increased value to its members. Did you know that the NZFIA has a “Fair, Wear and Tear” guide book free for its members? This book covers off acceptable end of hire/lease condition of the fork truck and is handed to the hirer at the start of the hire and also just prior to the end date. This booklet makes it clear the acceptable damage and wear on the forklift to the hirer right throughout the hire period. Handing a further book prior to the end of hire allows the hirer the opportunity to arrange “touch ups” and tidying of the forklift prior to handing it back.
