Garden News

It takes more than a few spo ts of rain to discourage our gardeners. We have bee n out there digging, planting and weeding, but not had to do much watering and things are loo king good in the vegetable garden. We hav e also been building a new chicken run and hav e ordered four Silkie hens which we are hoping to bre ed from once they have settled in. Things have not progresse d as well in the Peace Garde n. We may not be stopped by bad weather, but the arrival of a mallard duc k which built a sort of nest, laid its eggs and sat there for what seemed like ages brought us to a halt. Nothing was allo wed to disturb Mrs Duck and she finally hatched four chicks which caused great excitement. The pond is right in the middle of school and everyone can enviously wa tch the ducklings playing and sun bathing wh ilst they are having to work. Once the chicks have moved on, work wil l resume in this garden and hop efully we should soon have seating and a wa ter feature finished. Once again I need to thank my trusty helpers, Car oline, Therese and Mike for all their hard work and also the Year 7 girls and members of staff who feed the hens on a regular basis. If anyone wo uld like to join us they are more than welcome. Mrs A Jones
