ProCAD – Tekla Structures “Offshore Extensions” 1.0 ProCAD ProCAD is the CADCAM module of HGG’s ProCAM software. ProCAM is composed from 4 different modules:  ProGRAM (MDI, nesting and 3D viewer)  ProCAD (CADCAM connections)  ProMIS (Management Information System)  ProQMS (Quality Management System) ProCAD – Tekla Structures is a specific CADCAM connection developed by HGG together with Tekla. It is the first and only available system providing automatic NC cutting file generation from design to production. This document does not describe this connection but it describes the additional functionalities developed by HGG within the Tekla Structures environment specifically for the Offshore Industry. These only apply to the available HGG connections in Tekla Structures. 1.1 Tekla Structures Automatic generation of NC pipe cutting files through HGG’s ProCADTekla Structures connection is one step in the right direction making life easier for Fabricators offering cutting of:  saddles and chamfers  oblong holes / slots  holes  mitre saddle and hole  edge saddle  pipe crossing Useful parameters for the offshore industry which are already available in this connection are:  AWS  programming of root opening  programming of shrinkage AWS Back bevel offshore saddles and chamfers can be programmed within Tekla Structures. AWS cuts need to be processed in 2 separate cuts in order to cut the two welding zones. The AWS describes in great detail where the two different welding zones have to be positioned. However, it does not describe what happens exactly within the transition zone itself. Here HGG distinguishes itself by using its experience in having developed the AWS cutting path in such a way that the welding volume and welding access is optimized within the critical zone; the transition zone. This cutting intelligence is of course part of the HGG Pipe Cutting Machine itself. Parameter Bevel Opening Shrink Trans Strt Trans End

ProCAD – Tekla Structures “Offshore Extensions” Root opening and Shrinkage These parameter settings are available within the customer component (macro’s) of all cuts within Tekla Structures. These parameters will be exported together with all the NC data in the XML. The cutting path calculation software on our Pipe Cutting Machines, will not apply the root opening linear on the cutting shape but 3D. That makes an actual difference in the fit.

1.2 Tekla Structures “Offshore Extensions” However, being an Offshore Fabricator you are looking for a lot more functionalities since pipes are your core business and special requirements are daily routine in your industry. Having been active in the offshore for over 25 years, we understand the requirements and have developed additional features within Tekla Structures allowing your programmers to do all work preparations in one known environment and in a single database. The relevant data is exported within the same XML which can be read into HGG’s Pipe Cutting Machines. The additional features, offered in HGG’s Offshore Extensions, are following:  foot print marking incl. part drawings  x beveling and tapering  can grouping with can rotation / weld seam orientation incl. fabrication drawings  wrap arounds / template plotting  weld volume calculation  cutting lists incl. part drawings This software has been specially developed and tested in cooperation with Penglai Jutal, Saipem and Mc Dermott for the Offshore industry. The different features are described in further detail underneath. The Offshore Extensions software can be opened by selecting the button on the task bar, within Tekla Structures, which is circled red in the first screen shot under paragraph 2.0 of this document.

ProCAD – Tekla Structures “Offshore Extensions” 2.0 foot print marking incl. part drawings Each saddle has to be welded to a mating pipe. For easy fitting of the saddle to the mating, you would like to mark the exact position/shape of the saddle on the mating.

When you program a saddle connection within the Tekla Structures component dialogue box, the “Offshore Extensions” features automatic detection of all footprints of the saddle connections on the mating pipes. The foot prints are exported automatically together with the cutting data in the relevant XML. The exported foot prints are printed directly to the processed tubes in case your machine is also equipped with a marking system and relevant software. Additionally, the foot prints are visible on the drawings of the individual parts on the Cutting List.

3.0 X beveling and tapering Offshore structures are composed of tubes with large wall thicknesses, requiring X beveling for efficient welding and fitting. Additionally bracings are composed of different cans with different wall thicknesses requiring the need for tapering. The “Offshore Extensions” feature enables definition of X and Y bevels. The CAD engineer can easily enter the positive, straight and negative bevel of the welding preparation. In the drawing you can see two fit line depth. F1 is the fit line depth of the positive bevel (Bevelp). The F2 is the fit line depth of the negative bevel (Beveln).

Page 6

ProCAD – Tekla Structures “Offshore Extensions”

Additionally, the “Offshore Extensions” feature enables to adapt different tubular wall thicknesses to each other; tapering.

These features are available by selecting “Beveling” from the Offshore Extensions dialogue box. After selecting “Beveling” from the Offshore Extensions dialogue box, the “connection button” needs to be activated after which a connections needs to be selected within Tekla Structures. After this, the connection data appears in the Offshore Extensions dialogue box allowing modification.

Page 7

ProCAD – Tekla Structures “Offshore Extensions”

After making modifications in the Offshore Extensions dialogue box, the processed modifications need to be approved by selecting the “modify button”. The bevel modifications are exported automatically together with the cutting data in the relevant XML and processed automatically by your machine. The 3D viewer does not support these bevels.

Page 8

ProCAD – Tekla Structures “Offshore Extensions” 4.0 can grouping with can rotation / weld seam orientation incl. fabrication drawings The jacket legs of offshore structures are composed of cans forming single bracings. These bracings are often regarded as one production part since it involves a big part of the structural fabrication. The “Offshore Extensions” feature enables the grouping of cans into bracings, at the same time allowing can rotation by indication of weld seam orientation on the individual cans.

This features is available by selecting “Can Grouping” from the Offshore Extensions dialogue box. The welding seams can be assigned to parts as standard functionality programmed within Tekla Structures. The can grouping functionality makes it very easy to group and change the cans in a brace of a offshore construction. These braces are often build up out of many different cans. After selecting “Can Grouping” from the Offshore Extensions dialogue box, the “select brace button” needs to be activated after which a brace needs to be selected within Tekla Structures. After this, the cans appear in the Offshore Extensions dialogue box.

Page 9

ProCAD – Tekla Structures “Offshore Extensions”

The cans appear in the Offshore Extensions dialogue box, showing relevant data like can name, profile and rotation. The bracing together with weld seam orientations for all cans, are exported automatically together with the cutting data in the relevant XML and processed automatically by your machine.

Page 10

ProCAD – Tekla Structures “Offshore Extensions” A fabrication drawing can be generated of the complete brace including all cans, by selecting the “generate DXF button”. The plot is a DXF drawing so almost any CAD system can work with this drawing to allow you to customize it to your yard specific requirements. Foot prints are displayed on this drawing as well. As well as a data sheet showing following data:  can name  diameter (mm)  wall thickness (mm)  seam rotation (°)  can length (mm)  weight (Kg)  surface (m2)  welding volume (cm3)

Page 11

ProCAD – Tekla Structures “Offshore Extensions” 5.0 wrap arounds / template plotting The “Offshore Extensions” feature enables generation of templates, allowing fabrication by hand cutting, using this feature as a backup system, as additional capacity when machine is overloaded and/or as material to be provided to other fabricators when you are performing engineering services.

This feature is available by selecting “Wrap Around” from the Offshore Extensions dialogue box. After selecting “Wrap Around” from the Offshore Extensions dialogue box, the “select part button” needs to be activated after which a part needs to be selected within Tekla Structures. After this, the part appear in the Offshore Extensions dialogue box.

Page 14

ProCAD – Tekla Structures “Offshore Extensions” 6.0 weld volume calculation One of the most significant costs of Offshore Fabrication, are the welding costs. With the excellent quality of HGG’s Pipe Cutting Machine, the welding volume is already minimized. Additionally, the “Offshore Extensions” feature allows you to calculate the welding volume of all your connections allowing you to plan material requirement, costs and welding time.

The welding volume is calculated 3D on nett content including bevel, shrinkage and root opening. The assumption is that the surface of the pipe is straight after welding which is not true of course.

Page 15
