Preface
The new Granturismo S (M145GL) isa naturalevolution ofthe Maserati Granturismo automaticand incorporatesnumerousinnovative features, includingthe new4700 cc engineand gearboxwithquickMC-Shiftsystem.
The aimofthisdocumentationistoprovidealldetailsnecessaryforworkshop technicianstounderstandhowthe vehiclehas evolved, byanalysingthe variousareas thathavebeenupdated. Itprovidesin-depth specificationsand information aboutthe newengine, transmissionsystem, handlingand everythingthathaschangedwith respecttothe Granturismo withautomaticgearbox(M145BL).
Well-knownaspectscoveredin the manualofthe previousMaserati Granturismo, to whichthisadditionaldocumentformsa naturalaccompaniment, havebeenomitted. Instead, emphasisisplaced on providingfurther importantdetailsaboutthe powertrain system.
Oneyearafterthe launchofthe GranTurismo, Maserati returnstothe International Motorshowin Geneva withyetanotherworld first, the GranTurismoS, the ultimate expressionofthe Tridentcoupé’s sportingpedigree. Thisnewinterpretationofthe perfectbalancebetweensportinessand comfort shiftsthe emphasisontoperformance and drivingenjoyment.
The new440 hp V8 4.7 engine, electro-actuatedgearboxwithfast MC-Shift, Transaxle layout, sportyexhaustand brakes madewithdual-casttechnologymakethe GranTurismoS the newflagshipforMaserati sportingflair, withaccelerationfrom0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 secondsand a maximumspeedof295 km/h, the highesteverreached bya production Maserati.
The compact and lightweight4.7 litreV8 enginedevelopsmaximumpoweroutput of 440 HP at 7,000 rpmand peaktorqueof490 Nmat 4,750 rpm. Italsoensureshigh specificpoweroutput aswellasmore torqueat lowerspeeds, withoutaffectingthe capacitytoup the revsquickly, a featuretypicalofracingengines.
The increasein poweroutput and torquehasnotaffectedthe versatilityofthe power unit, whichcontinuestobereadilyharnessedevenduringeverydayuse. Itsounds deepand throaty, butthe exhaustvalve pneumaticcontrolcan alsobeactivatedto makeitdiscrete and subdued.
An electro-actuated6-speed gearboxis pairedwiththe 4.7 litreV8 engine, and has MC-Shiftsoftware whichharnessesthe newengine’s poweroutput, ensuringgearshift performance thatisunbeatablewithinthe sportscarsegment.
