Control and operation
The access and the outfit of the cab
Note!
To prevent the batteries from overloading, only switch on the air-conditioning or REHEAT mode after 400V power is supplied.
If the machine is used for a longer period of time without using the air-conditioning unit, operate the compressor every 2 weeks by pressing the REHEAT button 6 (see Fig. 3-49).
Additional cab heater (optional)
An additional cab heater can be installed above the operator seat. Thus, in case of cold weather, it can improve the cab comfort during the machine operation.
Supply 400V power (refer to the section "Start / stop the machine")
Use the rotary switch S234 to start the additional cab heater. The temperature adjustment of this device is the same as the standard heating system.
Use the rotary switch S234 again to stop the additional cab heater.

3.3.1Start / stop the machine
General information
Note!
When using the machine at a specific height above sea level and in connection with certain outside temperatures, the performance and service life of the electric motor is decisively affected. Under these conditions, there is also an increased risk of hydraulic oil overheating.
Before initial start up
Check the insulation resistance
Before initial start up and after a long period of non-use, and before the excavator is connected to the power supply, check the insulation resistance:
The resistance values must never be less than the minimum authorised resistances given in the instruction manual of the electric motor.
If insulation resistances are less than the minimum authorised value: Refer to the procedure in the instruction manual of the electric motor.
Check direction of rotation of electric motor
Before initial operation, or before restarting the electric motor after repairs to the electrical system, check the direction of rotation of the electric motor. Briefly start and stop the motor, and compare the direction of rotation to the arrows marked on the motor.
Activities before starting
Caution!
It is only possible to extinguish a source of fire when this one is accessible. Before starting, unlock all locks on the panelling of the hydraulic excavator. In the event of fire, the doors can be opened immediately and the fire extinguished.
Arrangement of locks: refer to chapter Maintenance.
Caution!
The activities below involve scald or burn hazards due to the high temperature of the hydraulic oil when the machine is at operating temperature. Read the Maintenance chapter in order to get informations about carrying out these activities.
Before starting the machine, the following activities should be carried out on a daily basis: ing air intake.
Turn
The ignition key S1 is installed inside the electrical box E1005
Switch to on the electrical system that the principal battery switches
"CLOSE
These are located on the inner side of the pumps box. Turn the ignition key S1 to contact position. After a few seconds: The low voltage circuit operates. The 24V control circuit operates. The display turns on. On the keyboard, the first LED of the "Travel brake" and "Swing brake" buttons come on.
If neither the display nor the above listed LED turns on when the ignition key is in the contact position:
Make sure that the principal battery switches are set to "CLOSE".
Control board
Make sure that the excavator is connected to and supplied with electric power by the power station or the field switch. Indicator light H107 comes on. The high voltage circuit operates.
Start the electric motor Standard start procedure
Make sure that the electrical system is switched on. Push and hold the "Start/Stop" motor button on the keyboard. The motor start procedure begins and the first LED in the button comes on. First LED in the button goes off when you release the button.
Caution!
In order to prevent the electric motor from overheating, motor starting attempts are limited for a given time frame. You must observe a sufficient time interval between two consecutive starting attempts.
When the motor is cold, do not restart more than 5 times. Then wait about 1 hour before restarting.
When the motor is already warm, we recommend that you do not restart more than 3 times, waiting about 10 minutes between two consecutive starting procedures.
Notes after starting the motor
Run the motor until the hydraulic oil is at operating temperature. The controls operate sluggishly at low oil temperatures.
Move the machine carefully in an open space to test the function of the travel and swing brakes.
Check that the attachment is operating perfectly.
Stop the electric motor
Push the "Start/Stop" motor button on the keyboard. Then the motor stops.
Turn the ignition key S1 to position "0" to switch off the machine.
Remove the ignition key S1
Disconnect the electrical system with remote battery switches (optional)
In option, the principal battery switches can be installed under the counterweight (battery switches box E1092).
H120 Indicator light of ignition key and electric motor
H121 / H122 Indicator lights of batteries status
S9_12 / 22 Principal battery circuit breakers
Make sure that the electric motor is stopped. Refer to the section above. Make sure that the indicator light H120 is off.
If not, the ignition key S1 stays in contact position. Turn the principal battery switches S9_12 and S9_22 in position "OPEN". The principal batteries stay connected during 5 minutes. Then, the principal batteries are automatically disconnected and the two indicator lights H121 and H122 go off.
While the ignition key S1 stays in contact position, the batteries stay connected.
Use the starting aids system
You can read the applicable working ambient temperature range of the machine on the special information label in the cab.
Obey the preparatory measures given in this section. Obey the applicable preheating procedure given below in this manual. For automatic functions and devices, refer to the Service Manual.
Measures to be taken before electric motor stop or before to start the preheating procedure
Lay down the attachment on the ground in order to have a maximum quantity of oil in the hydraulic tank: stick and bucket cylinders fully retracted, bucket on the ground.
Preheating of hydraulic oil (if installed)
This procedure is applicable only if the optional preheating of the hydraulic oil is installed.
If installed
The preheating of the hydraulic oil works with immersion resistors. They are supplied by an external electric power supply (Gen-Set) which is not provided with the machine. The Gen-Set must supply a minimum of 8 kVA, 400 V, 50 Hz. At this step, the machine is switched to off.
1 Cab elevation
2 Circuit breaker of control box E1090
The control box E1090 is located in the cab elevation 1. Make sure that the switch 2 is in position "CLOSE".
3 External socket
3.3.2Warm-up procedure for hydraulic circuit
If the excavator is started when the exterior temperature is below 0°C, the operator must do the warm-up procedure: not open the louvers of the hydraulic oil cooler more than one quarter.
Make sure that the hydraulic oil temperature is sufficient (refer to lubricating section in chapter 5) to do this procedure. If this temperature is not sufficient when a preheating system is installed on the excavator, keep preheating.
Let the motor run during the first 3 to 5 minutes and make sure that no error symbols are shown on the monitoring display (refer to the functions of the display in chapter 3).
Step 1 - Open louvers and tarpaulins (if installed).
Step 2 - Carefully activate the working hydraulic circuits. Do not reach end positions of piston rod. Operate all movements at reduced speed: and repeat 10 times before moving to next cylinders:
