Calculate the shim thickness

The shim thickness must ensure an end float of 0,02 to 0,10mm at the taper bearings: Formula to be used:X = B – A – 0,05 (0,05mm is an average set value for the end float). – Measure the dimension "A". – Measure the depth"B"(Depth of the bearing in relation to the edge of the casing). Example: A = 6,4 ; B = 7,5 X = 7,5 – 6,4 – 0,05 = 1,05 In this example, shim thickness(14) to be used is 1,05mm.

– Using Loctite(518) fit the bearing cup(6). – Insert on the shaft(2) the shims(14) required to achieve the setting calculated earlier. – Refit the cover plate(12) using Loctite(518). Screw down the4 attachment screws(15) locking them using Loctite(243). – Tighten the screws to a torque of7,5daN·m. – Tap on the back of the bell(16) to put the shims(14) under pressure. – Using a dial gauge, check that the endfloat is between 0,02 and0,10mm.
