Section 22 Electronic Shutdown System

SAFETY SHUTDOWN

The electronic shutdown system monitors the atmosphere for methane and controls the engine shutdown and will light the appropriate LEDs on the display panel.

The following sensors are fitted to the machine:

1. High Methane Shutdown (1.25%) Shuts engine down 2. Low Methane Warning (1%) Warning light 3. Charge Failure Warning light 4. Engine Oil Pressure Shuts engine down 5. Scrubber Level 1 Shuts engine down 6. Engine Coolant/Hydraulic Oil Level Shuts engine down 7. Scrubber Level 2 Shuts engine down 8. Engine Coolant Temperature Shuts engine down 9. Exhaust Outlet Temperature Shuts engine down 10. Run Solenoid Warning light 11. Start Fault Warning light

OPERATING THE ELECTRONIC SHUTDOWN SYSTEM

1. Turn on the on/off toggle switch:

a. This will activate the electronic shutdown system electronics. b. The LEDs on the display will light up for about five seconds (This serves to test display LEDs and circuitry). c. Most of the display LEDs will go out and those remaining indicate relevant conditions. (NOTE: If the methane head is not fitted the relevant display LEDs will go out with the others).

 High Methane (1.25%)  Low Methane (1.0%)  Charge Failure  Engine Oil Pressure  Run Solenoid

2. Wait for the methane monitor to read (approximately 17 seconds):

a. The methane monitor needs about 17 seconds to measure the content in the surrounding air, if methane is detected the machine will not start.

If methane is detected the machine will not start, report to supervisor.

b. There is a waiting time of 30 seconds for the solenoid to power up and the run solenoid display LED will go out. c. With the machine in neutral it can now be started.

3. Start engine:

a. Activate the on/off toggle switch and engine start button. b. The charge failure and engine oil pressure display LEDS will then go out. c. The machine is now ready to be operated.

If any of the display LEDs remain illuminated after starting, this should be reported to the service personnel.

The display LEDs will not activate if the air pressure is below 250 kPa.

The start sequence is the same if the methane monitor is not fitted.

4. To shutdown machine:

a. When shutting down the machine, turn off the on/off toggle switch. This will unpower the electronic shutdown system and stop the machine. b. Turn the main air isolation valve off.
