Roof cylinder and roof cylinder mount weldment removal and installation

To remove the roof cylinder (reference Fig. 99):

 Fully retract the roof cylinder.

 Shutdown the feeder breaker (see Shutdown procedure in this chapter).

 Turn the circuit breaker to the “OFF”position and disconnect and lock and tag out the main power source. Follow all standard Federal and mine practices for locking/tagging out power sources.

WARNING! Before performing maintenance on the machine, the circuit breaker should be in the “OFF”position and power should be locked and tagged out at the main power source. Electrical shock or accidental machine movement can cause serious injury or death to personnel.

 Attach an appropriate lifting device to the roof cylinder and roof cylinder mounting weldment.

WARNING! Serious injury or death can result from falling loads. Observe the safe working load limits of lifting devices and keep a safe distance from suspended loads.

 Disconnect, tag, and cap the hydraulic hoses going to the cylinder.

WARNING! Never disconnect a hydraulic hose if the circuit is pressurized or if there is a load on the circuit. If a hose is disconnected while the circuit is pressurized or a load is on it, the load will fall, causing damage to the machine or serious injury or death to personnel.

 Remove the sixteen bolts, two rows of four on each side of the mounting weldment, that attach the mounting weldment to the frame. NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the mount weldment if the roof cylinder only is being replaced. If the roof cylinder is being replaced, skip this step.

 Lift the cylinder and weldment off of the feeder breaker. NOTE: If the roof cylinder only is being replaced, skip this step.

 Remove the eight bolts, four on each side of the cylinder, that attach the roof cylinder to the mounting weldment.

Replacement of wear parts _____________________________________

To install the roof cylinder (reference Fig. 99):

 Attach an appropriate lifting device to the roof cylinder and position the roof cylinder in the mounting weldment.

WARNING! Serious injury or death can result from falling loads. Observe the safe working load limits of lifting devices and keep a safe distance from suspended loads.

 Install the eight bolts, four on each side of the cylinder, to secure the roof cylinder to the mounting weldment.

 Attach an appropriate lifting device to the roof cylinder and roof cylinder mounting weldment. NOTE: If the roof cylinder only is being replaced, the mounting weldment will still be bolted to the machine frame. Attach an appropriate lifting device to the roof cylinder only.

WARNING! Serious injury or death can result from falling loads. Observe the safe working load limits of lifting devices and keep a safe distance from suspended loads.

 Position the cylinder and mounting weldment on the feeder breaker. NOTE: If the roof cylinder only is being replaced, omit this step.

 Install the sixteen bolts, two rows of four on each side of the mounting weldment, that attach the mounting weldment to the frame. Note: If the roof cylinder only is being replaced, omit this step.

 Reconnect the hydraulic hoses to the cylinder.

 Restore power to the feeder breaker.
