AUTOMATIC LUBRICATION FOR OPEN GEARING

BRIDGE STRAND CABLE LUBRICATION The large Norgren 1/2 inch pump air pressure reg u1ator, sh0 IJ 1dbe set at 80 psi and the sma 11 Parker - Hannifin 1/4 inch valve air pressure regulator, should be set at 90 psi. The end of the line pressure switches, located at the hoist gear and the left propel gear, should be set at 2500 psi.

This system is optional on all machines. It supplies uncontaminated open gear lubricant (OGL) to all vital open gearing. The system drips OGL to 6 points on the Drag and Hoist gearing and to 8 points on both the right and left hand propel gearing. It also sprays OGL to both the top and bottom of the #1 and #4 swing pinion mesh, as well as to two (2) additional points on the swing rack. The hoist, drag and swing gearing are served only during "digging" and the propel gearing only during "propel" by means of a control panel set for one (1) cycle every ten (10) minutes. The controller contains a manual pushbutton override as well as an alarm and red light to indicate system failure if it does not complete its cycle within three (3) minutes. The frequency and amount of lubricant can be adjusted in a similar manner as the grease system serving the rotating frame.

Experience has shown the most likely point of failure of boom point support bridge strand rope to be that area at, or adjacent to the socket connection.

This is the area where the greatest deflection occurs. The movement of strand against strand will dislodge the lubrication enough to permit the entrance of moisture. Which eventually causes deterioration of the rope. To avoid this condition and increase the useful life expectancy of the bridge strand support rope, wire rope lubricant is applied in the area of the socket by hand. Use hand spray.
