COMPACT TRACK LOADER OPERATING

Correct track tension is important. If the tracks are too loose, they can easily derail. If they are too tight, they will wear faster and cause increased stress on the complete track carriage system.

Use a gradual turn (one lever farther forwardthan the other) instead of a fast turn (one steering lever forward, one backward) on asphalt or concrete surfaces to prevent reduced track life or derailing of tracks [A]

Keep the full length of the tracks in contact with the ground [B] for best traction. Raising the front end of the tracks off the ground [B] will reduce traction and cause increased track wear.

Go directly up or down a slope, not across the slope to prevent tracks from derailing.

Avoid operating the loader with one track on a slope and the other on flat ground [C] or with the edge of the track turned up against a curb or mound [C]. This can cause the tracks to derail, cracks in the edge of the tracks or cracks at the edges of the embedded metal.

Avoid operating or turning on sharp objects such as jagged rocks or broken concrete. This can cause cuts on the lug surface of the tracks [C]

OPERATING PROCEDURE (FOOT PEDALS)

Filling The Bucket

Push down on the top of the lift pedal until the lift arms are all the way down.

Push the top of the tilt pedal to put the cutting edge of the bucket on the ground [A].

Drive slowly forward into the material. Push the bottom of the tilt pedal to raise the front of the bucket [B]

Load, unload and turn on flat level ground. Do not exceed rated operating capacity shown on sign (decal) in cab. Failure to obey warnings can cause the machine to tip or roll over and cause injury or death.

Drive backward away from the material.

Emptying The Bucket

Push down on the bottom of the lift pedal to raise the lift arms [C]. Push the top of the tilt pedal while raising the lift arms to level the bucket or attachment and help prevent material from falling off the back of the bucket or attachment.

Drive forward slowly until the bucket is over the top of the truck box or bin. Push the top of the tilt pedal until thebucket is empty [C]. If all the material is near the side of the truck or bin, push it to the other side with the bucket.

Never dump over an obstruction, such as a post, that can enter the operator cab. The machine could tip forward and cause injury or death.

Digging Into The Ground

Put the lift arms all the way down. Push the top of the tilt pedal until the cutting edge of the bucket is on the ground. Drive forward slowly and continue to tilt the bucket down until it enters the ground [A].

Push the bottom of the tilt pedal a small amount to increase traction and keep an even digging depth. Continue to drive forward until the bucket is full. When the ground is hard, raise and lower the cutting edge of the bucket with the tilt pedal while driving forward slowly.

Push the bottom of the tilt pedal to tilt the bucket backward as far as it will go when the bucket is full [B]

Leveling The Ground (Using Lift Arms In Float Position)

Push the top (toe) of the lift pedal all the way forward until the pedal is in the locked position to put the lift arms in the float position [C]

Push the tilt pedal to change the position of the cutting edge on the bucket. With the bucket tilted farther forward, there is more force on the cutting edge and more loose material can be moved.

Never drive forward when the hydraulic control for lift arms is in float position.

Drive backward to level loose material. Push the bottom of the lift pedal to unlock from the float position.

Backfilling

Lower the lift arms and put the cutting edge of the bucket on the ground. Drive forward to the edge of thehole to push the material into the hole [A].

Tilt the bucket forward as soon as it is past the edge of the hole [A]

If necessary, raise the lift arms to empty the bucket.

PARKING THE BOBCAT LOADER

Stop the loader on level ground.

In freezing temperatures, park the loader on planks, concrete, or asphalt to prevent the tracks from freezing to the ground.

Lower the lift arms fully and put the attachment flat on the ground.

Pull the engine speed control lever all the way backward. Turn the key switch to the OFF POSITION.

• Stop the engine.

• Engage the parking brake.

• Raise seat bar, move pedals until both lock.

Lift the seat bar and make sure the foot pedals are in the locked position.

Unbuckle the seat belt. Remove the key from the switch to prevent operation of the loader by unauthorized personnel. Clean mud, ice, snow, etc. from the tracks and idlers to prevent freezing and future start–up difficulties.

During freezing temperatures, park the loader on a smooth, hard surface such as asphalt, concrete or wood planks.

• Keep the seat belt fastened snugly.

• The seat bar must be lowered.

• Keep your feet on the footrests.

– Press anbd hold the Float Button (Item 1) [C] before moving the lever.

– Press again to disengage.

Move the right hand lever to change the position of the cutting edge on the bucket. With the bucket tilted farther forward, there is more force on the cutting edge and more loose material can be moved.

• Engage the parking brake.

• Raise seat bar.

• (Advanced Hand Controls) Move the hand controls to the NEUTRAL POSITION to make sure that both lift and tilt functions are deactivated. The seat bar system must deactivate the lift and tilt control functions when the seat bar is up. Service the system if hand controls do not deactivate.

Adequately designed ramps of sufficient strength are needed to support the weight of the machine when loading onto a transport vehicle. Wood ramps can break and cause personal injury.

Always drive backward onto the transport vehicle[A] when the loader has an empty bucket or no attachment.

The rear of the trailer must be blocked or supported [A] when loading or unloading the loader to prevent the front end of the trailer from raising up.

Be sure the transport and towing vehicles are of adequate size and capacity. (See SPECIFICATIONS Page 93, for weight of loader.)

Fasten the Bobcat loader to the transport vehicle to prevent the loader from moving during sudden stops or when going up or down slopes [B]

• Lower the bucket or attachment to the floor.

• Stop the engine and engage the parking brake.

• Install chains at the front and rear loader tie down positions (inset) [B]

• Fasten each end of the chain diagonally to the transport vehicle.

• Install load binders to tighten the chains.

Stopping The Bobcat Loader

Put the steering levers in neutral. The hydrostatic transmission will act as a service brake to stop the loader.

Towing The Loader

Never work on a machine with the lift arms up unless the lift arms are secured by an approved lift arm support device. Failure to use an approved lift arm support device can allow the lift arms or attachment to fall and cause injury or death.

Tow the loader only a short distance at slow speed. (Example: Moving the loader onto a transport vehicle).

The towing chain (or cable) must be rated at 1 & 1/2 times the weight of the loader. (See SPECIFICATIONS Page 93.)

The hydraulic brakes must be disengaged to allow towing of the loader.

• Raise the cab (See Raising The Operator Cab page ??.)

• Early Model Loaders (Without Coupler)

– Remove the hose (Item 1) [A] from the lift arm by–pass valve located behind the steering lever panel near the right side of the loader. (The steering lever panel is shown removed, but it is not necessary to do so for this procedure.)

– Put a cap on the fitting from the lift arm by–pass valve.

– Connect a Port–a–Power to the hose (Item 1) [A].

– Operate the Port–a–Power to 400 PSI (2758 kPa) to release the brake.

– Lower the cab and tow the loader.

– Disconnect the Port–a–Power.

• Later Model Loaders (With Coupler)

– Disengage the parking brake solenoid valve by pushing IN on the red Traction Lock By–Pass Knob (Item 1) [B] and turning it 1/4 TURN counter clockwise . The knob will come out to release the solenoid valve.

– Connect a Port–a–Power to thequick coupler located near the brake block (Item 1) [C]

– Operate the Port–a–Power to 400 PSI (2758 kPa) to release the brake.

– Lower the cab and tow the loader.

– Before operating the loader again, disconnect the Port–a–Power and (Early Models Only) remove the cap and connect the hydraulic hose to its original location.

– Engage the parking brake solenoid valve, by pushing IN on the red Traction Lock By–Pass Knob (Item 1) [B] and turning it 1/4 TURN clockwise.

Unexpected loader movement. Can cause serious injury or death.

Push in and turn red Traction Lock By–Pass Knob clockwise to engaged position before operating loader. Read Operation & Maintenance Manual for more instructions.

AVOID INJURY OR DEATH

• Before lifting, check fasteners on four point lift.

• Never allow riders in the cab or bystanders within 15 feet (5 meters) while lifting the machine.

Single Point Lift
