FRESH INK × Inkterview

An amazing art-model, a look with a daring style and curvaceous body. An Italian Irish girl to a large extent tattooed. Don’t need anything else, she is Riae Suicide.

RIAE SUICIDE

he began posing for the web www.suicidegirls.com while living in Berlin. Since that day she has collaborated with many Italian and international photographers, she has also worked on music videos and photographs have been published in numerous magazines worldwide. When she’s not on camera, she loves to make cardboard animals and cooking. She is a big fan of Nintendo and The Big Bang Theory, she loves to do yoga and long walks in the woods. Riae has always loved the tattoo world since I was little, and particularly loves tattoos that represent animals and cartoons, her body is adorned with beautiful themes, like the fox in the neck made by Ryan Mason, a flamingo leg and many other animals, most made by her husband Skyzzo an Italian tattoo artist. He also did the tattoo all over her back, a mermaid eating the tentacles of an octopus, with different sea creatures through her hair. She is a fan of Tim Burton and Disney cartoons, many tattoos are devoted to them, from the heart in the chest, to the Queen and Maleficent in her feet. We had the pleasure of exchanging a few words with this very interesting and beautiful artist, a girl who seems taken from a manga, with blue hair and big green eyes.

//01

Hi Riae, welcome to Fresh Ink! Tell us a bit about yourself. Who is Riae Suicide and what she did before she became an art-model? We can say that Riae Suicide is my alter ego or character I play now, since 2007, when I took it for the first time. Seriously, I’m an alternative model and Suicide Girl. Before I begin my modeling career, I have done almost all the work, from a waitress in a nightclub, the cleaning lady, secretary to several tattoo shops. Let’s say, I’ve never been with folded hands. Since I left home at 16. I’ve always settled for not having to ask anyone.

//02

When you decided to be a model? I’ve never had a good relationship with my body, I am very low and curvy and I have a face that does not follow much of classical aesthetics (no fleshy lips, for example), I had never thought about being a model. Let’s say that some of my ex always told me I had to be grateful because they had a good heart to be with an ugly like me; that killed my little self esteem I had. All this until I discovered the site “suicidegirls. com” and saw that it could be an alternative to the classic beauty that obviously did not belong. I did the first session when I lived in Berlin, did a friend of mine and I became a Suicide Girl. It was my “baptism” and I have to admit that, although the first ten minutes of panic and embarrassment afterwards came very naturally, even if it was a nude session erotic.

IN REAL LIFE I’M VERY SHY AND INTROVERTED, BUT I THINK, LOOKING AT MY PICTURES, VERY FEW PEOPLE REALIZE THIS

//03

What was it like to work with the photographer on this shoot? I work with the photographer of the cover, he can always figure out what I want an has a lot of patience with me… he is my boyfriend so that does help too.

//04

What is your relationship with the camera? I like my photos, I like to play different roles, and I become completely once I start posing. In “real” life I am very shy and introverted, but I think, looking at my pictures, very few people realize this. I like to look directly into the lens and try to seduce the room (no, not the photographer) like we were only he and me.

//05

You are a very complex artist, because you go through endless styles. What do you feel closest? My favorite genres are erotic nudes and glamor, because I can “use” my body as I prefer, plus these genres are much freer than one of beauty (which I hate) or artistic nude, for which I have no physical . I also really like the fetish, though I have no skills, I’m not part of that world 100%, I have always afraid to send the wrong message.

//06

Your body is very colorful with beautiful tattoos and piercings. What meaning have in your body? I know it may seem a disappointing response, but have no meaning. I always liked tattoos and as soon as I could I started to color my body, sometimes making wrong decisions by the lack of knowledge of the world of tattoos and sometimes the lack of money. Fortunately, these “mistakes” were covered by the most beautiful tattoos and weighted. The piercings slowly, over time, will decrease, when I was “young and rebellious” were many more, including some particularly ugly, but at the moment I keep that in my opinion, improve the face and other body parts.

//07

How would you describe your style? I don’t know how to describe my style because I wear what I like most at the time (and the clean clothes that I find in my wardrobe). I like to have a varied wardrobe, so I can switch very sporty clothes (I love Nike shoes, the basketball outfits and socks) to dress like a good girl.

RIAE SUICIDE

//08

What are you working on now? Modeling always takes much of my time, because I often do the accessories and clothes for my sets, so they are always unique (I’m a girl from a photographic point of view and I do not like to have similar accessories to those other models). So I’m working on some projects for me and then, in the not so near future, I’ll start with my own line of lingerie.

//13

So how can a guy impress you? I love the men who make me laugh. I say I have the “Jessica Rabbit’s syndrome” because like she, I like men who are funny, as physical appearance does not matter to me. Of course, then the man must also be sweet but not too much.

I HAVE DONE ALMOST ALL THE WORK, FROM A WAITRESS IN A NIGHTCLUB, THE CLEANING LADY, SECRETARY TO SEVERAL TATTOO SHOPS. LET’S SAY, I’VE NEVER BEEN WITH FOLDED HANDS

//09

How have you chosen to portray the collection of the gallery at the Blackheart Burlesque? Primarily by album artwork with texture. I have worked a lot with the images format and textile components. The images itself becomes as its own work. Picture installation gives more of a feeling for the collection than pure image pictures. Mixed. Each image portrayed more as a separate work.

//10

Where’s the worst place you’ve been? I’m a model and then I travel a lot and I often find myself sleeping in the worst room in the B&B. Sometimes I sleep with my clothes on to avoid touching the sheets. I remember that in a hostel in Barcelona there were bed fleas that bit me for 4 days.

//14

How do you get inspiration for the collections of pics? I am not looking up inspiration. I think I will take it unconsciously. For once I get started on an SG photosets collection usually creates spirit always be there. For me it has never been an anxiety filled moments. There tend to be rather quite simple. I always start with the selection of fabrics, quality and feel and rather a vague idea that then grows up and shaped.

//15

//11

What will we see in Riae Suicide girl profile? I started working with an analog feel. As an extension of everything surfing online, that culminates in some kind of reality. Above all, I loved what is happening digitally. I think the seed of the collection planted in conjunction with the movie, Suicide girls must die. Where situations arise.

How Riae Suicide became a hopeful Suicide Girl model? How has the journey been like? A friend and I signed up for the first time in the suicidegirls website at age 18. We drove for a year. I knew from an early age that there was something creative I wanted to work with. Then I came in at Beckmann. After the training, I jumped on a plane to London to practice before me. In 2008, decided to start their own during the Blackheart Burlesque.

//12

//16

What’s your favourite fancy dress outfit? I love the costumes from Sailor Moon and manga/ hentai in general. Unfortunately, I’m not a cosplayer, but in private I love to wear outfits that evoke manga characters.

Who is the typical Riae Suicide fans & followers? I see it as quite broad, with strong integrity. It has not necessarily to be super trendy, but very sure how Riae Suicide wants to dress. I often use myself, but perhaps most of my surroundings.

DOTS TO LINES

..

.....

Some artists say that there is no better reference at the time of creating than the nature itself, is the most honest inspiration. From Berlin, Chaim Machlev is a tattoo artist who takes it, one of the most deeply rooted art forms, with antecedents in the Stone Age, at a level of perfection of form and mystique of representation.

.....

H

e goes on to describe his first encounter with tattooing. “I cannot put my finger on it now, but something meaningful happened and I realised how strong the effect of putting your trust into someone you just met, to let them change your body, when all you have as a reference is some work of theirs you’ve seen before, or some recommendation. I see it as leaving your ego behind and going through something very deep; a process of self-healing using art.” To Chaim, everything changed after that. To put it simply, he decided to dedicate his life to understanding what exactly happened in that little room in Tel Aviv, and how it had come to have such a profound effect on his life. He puts it beautifully when he says, “there was something deep in my subconscious that had been there for many years and suddenly it had been woken up and had called me into action. Every time I thought about tattooing I felt that there is something in it that waits out there for me…” In order to pursue this passion, Chaim left Israel where he felt he’d been struggling for the first 30 years of his life, and began his new life as a tattoo artist.

//09

He had realised that there would be no way that he could learn to tattoo in Israel, and so travelled to the capital city of Germany, Berlin. “I had left my job as a service manager at a famous IT company where I was working 14-hour days. From a materialistic point of view, I was leaving a lot behind. I was leaving a highly paid job, and no-one I knew understood why I was suddenly taking such a risk.” But it was clear to Chaim that it was what he wanted and was destined to do. “It just became a part of my truth that led me to sell everything I ever owned to fund that chance.”

“I STARTED TO SEE IT IN MY DREAMS, EVERY PERSON THAT I SAW I THOUGHT ABOUT LINES THAT GO THROUGH THEIR BODY AND HOW INTERESTING IT COULD BE.” Picture Chaim, having left a life of luxury, arriving in Berlin with nothing but a small bag on his back and a big dream. “I was aware how hard the journey might be, but I was prepared for it. I marked all the tattoo studios on the map and started to visit each one of them. One particular occasion was when I met a

couple who really opened their hearts for me. They provided me a place in their studio to be an apprentice and to learn through observing. I am thankful for that every second of my life. I continue to tattoo in that same place now. I love tattooing in Berlin. I asked Chaim to tell me a bit about his style and practice of tattooing: “My designs are based a lot on the shape of the body of the particular client that I’m tattooing at the time. The process starts with meeting the clients and trying to understand what it is that they want to express. Then I observe their body and the location they had in mind for the tattoo, and I try to create something that will look organic and be in harmony with the body. I draw up a rough design before I start, and the final result is something that the client cannot predict. So it takes a lot of trust to get tattooed by me.” He goes on, “I try to experiment as much as I can from the art perspective, never had any contact with the art world as a creator of it. Fortunately for me I don’t have any borders when it comes to the creative process, unlike people who have studied art and have become conditioned to create art in a certain way.”

WHAT THE FOOD?

Tattoos in exchange for free pizza for life

Taco Bell fan boldly gets a burrito tattoo

A KFC fanatic get a Double Down tattoo

Would you be willing to trade having a branded pizza tattoo on your body forever to be able to get free pizza for life? Well, most people in Houston would. The Pi Pizza Truck celebrated its 2nd anniversary this past weekend with its 2nd ever #FreePizzaForLife tattoo promotion. Customers who get a Pi Pizza Truck themed tattoo from artist Gabe Massey will receive a whole pizza every day as long as the truck is open for business.

A Taco Bell superfan, Justin, got a tattoo of the the Beefy Crunch Burrito (the limited time only burrito with Fritos in it). Apparently, after seeing a tweet from Taco Bell about the burrito’s return, Justin told Taco Bell that he would get the tattoo if they released the burrito early. Whether a planned PR stunt or completely self-driven mistake, this man is now marked for life with a novelty burrito and instructions to “Live Mas.”

Has novelty sandwich fandom hit its peak? KFC’s YouTube channel triumphantly brings the video of an unidentified (but bearded) individual getting a tattoo of the “DoubleDown”. The ink receiver reminisces about first trying the sandwich while on a date with his girlfriend: He admits “I guess that’s how it all started,” though does not specify whether he’s referring to his sandwich fandom or his relationship.

But there are also meditations on the link between tattoos and chefs’ kitchen scars, a thoughtful

eye towards lesser-known names (including a great very healthy dose of Portland chefs) as well a plenty of women represented. There are also recipes alongside the tattoo talk.
