Around 1,800 Hertsmere householders have claimed a refund on this year’s increase of our share of the council tax liability.

The refund scheme enabled residents to opt in for a credit against their 2023/24 council tax liability, with any unclaimed refunds being set aside to support the borough’s most vulnerable households, through the Council Tax Support Scheme and other charitable causes.

Our share of the council tax bill for this financial year equated to an increase of between £5.32 to £5.82 for a band D property, which is 10 per cent of the overall council tax payment residents make. We are now administering the refunds, with claimants due to receive their monies by 31 December.

The remaining funds will be allocated to our Council Tax Support Scheme, for households on low incomes.
