Avoid scams at Christmas

Advice from Hertfordshire’s Trading Standards suggest fraudsters are increasingly targeting people in the lead up to Christmas. It’s important to recognise a scam and how to report anything you think is suspicious.

If a deal looks too good to be true, it probably is. Research before you buy to confirm authenticity by checking reviews and T&C’s. Scammers may ask you to pay in an unusual way or quickly through a transfer service. When making large payment amount, use a credit card to give you extra protection. Report fraud immediately to your bank and to the police.

To report scams to the police, contact them via Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or go to actionfraud.police.uk

For advice and to get support from Trading Standards for a victim of fraud, call the Citizens Advice Consumer helpline on 0808 223 1133. Report scam texts and phone calls for free to 7726.
