LAUREN HENSON

INTERIOR DESIGN STUDENT

Hello! My name is Lauren Henson, and I am currently a senior studying to get my Bachelor of Science in interior design at Stephen F. Austin State University. Design to me is about being authentic, open-minded, transformative, and adaptable. When I design a space, these are the key points I consider. Each client has a different story that they want to be told within a space and it is important for that to be captured and personalized for them. I aim to design adaptable spaces with sustainable solutions while being aesthetically pleasing. I want the client to be able to express themselves through my designs while being able to live, grow and learn in the space they help create.

RESIDENTIAL

The Parker Condominium was a residential project focusing on converting a previously existing industrial space in a Dallas high rise building into a one bedroom condominium for a young, professional couple. The couple was looking for a modern design that brought their love for the outdoors in, and that featured a large entertaining area with a private workspace. Since the space was existing, this project required strategic space planning and design to make sure all the needs were met in the space. The overall design was set to bring in the couple's hobbies as well as fit their everyday needs with unique décor, patterns and natural colors.

RESIDENTIAL PERRITT

VACATIONHOME

The Perritt Vacation Home required me to design a custom lake home for a soon to be retired couple near Beaver's Bend, Oklahoma. The couple wanted the home to be under 1,000 square feet and ADA compliant, and they also requested that it be a home where they could comfortably age-in-place. Mr. Perritt has Parkinson's Disease, so all parts of the home needed to be easily accessible for him The Perritt's also have two older sons, so they requested a loft with enough space for them to stay when visiting. The home was inspired by famous architect Fay Jones and takes inspiration from many of his design elements such as floor to ceiling windows, built in furniture and organic materials.

PERRITT VACATION HOME MODEL

For this project we made a 3 D model of the home out of posterboard and any materials we had on hand. The roof and second floor loft had to be removeable to be able to show the floors below.

RESIDENTIAL DAVIS CONDOMINIUM

The Davis Condominium project was one that required me to renovate and redesign an already existing space for a classy and fun loving client named William Davis, who will reside here temporarily. Mr. Davis asked that the style of this home be more casually designed than his other residences are, and it be able to display his extensive family art collection throughout the home. I was given a $120,000 furniture budget for the space and different requests and requirements for each room within the condominium. Upon the completion of this project, I was selected to present it to a panel jury of design professionals along with only 4 other classmates.

COMMERCIAL LAW FIRM

This project was completed in an advanced Revit course that I took this past year. During this time, the designer was presented with the task of converting a multilevel law firm with an existing floor plan into a Revit model. We had to create construction documents and then develop perspectives of the space to then present at the end of the class.

COMMERCIAL EMERALD

CITYCAFE

For this project, we were paired with a partner to design a coffee shop based on each others needs and wants in their space. We were given an existing old warehouse building downtown and were tasked with creating a new coffee shop. This started out by creating visioning boards and getting feedback from my client, Destinee, and then creating and developing different layouts and preliminary material boards to present to her. Once all the feedback was received we developed a final floor plan and put it into Revit, which finally led to applying materials and rendering perspectives of the space. Once this was completed, I created a final design package and presented it to the class.
