20 /20 Foreword Research driven design is what creates a long lasting visual stor y because it is able to make that connection and touch someone’s hear t. Creativity comes when you have restrictions. That is how I approach my work. Pushing the limits of my ever y brain cells to do something dif ferent, something I am not comfor table with. I take the courage to step outside the box in each project hoping to have the design visually makes sense to the project so it makes the connection with the intended audience.

project Analog Poster course Type Experiment instructor Stanley Zienka category Typography semester Spring 2020 deliverable Poster
06 /07 Impugning Reality objective Create an 18 x 24 poster based on a song ’s lyrics using an analog image creation process without any digital manipulations. The poster’s purpose is to reinterpret the verses in a visual language using these analog images I’ve created. The materials used are a random collection of day to day materials projected through an overhead projector, windows, or television. connecting Radiohead’s Fake Plastic Trees lyrics were selected for my interpretation. It depicts the fine line between reality, drugs, and materialism. A collection of photos of architecture, drugs, lego, pill bottles, and more are collected and analogously manipulated to create a brand new set of visuals that I used to interpret the song’s meaning.

project Books course The Nature of Identity instructor Hunter Wimmer category Brand Identity semester Spring 2020 deliverable Books Stationery System
22 /23 Empowering Women objective This project aims to create a new brand identity for a dead, dying, or defunct company. The first deliverable is the Visual Strategy Guide, which looks into the development of your new identity. The Visual Logo Development Guide will document our logo design process as part of the second deliverable. The Visual Standards Guide, the last deliverable, provides a system for future designers and adjacent industry experts to recreate your visual design. I choose the brand Roxy. It is a female exclusive apparel company that was created by Quiksilver in the 90s. connecting Creating a visual identity that is female exclusive is challenging. And challenge accepted. The new identity ’s goal is to inspire and encourage women to be pioneers and support them through their life adventures. I used the keywords audacious, active/dynamic, and empowered to guide my logomark and wordmark design process.

50 /51 Designing Future objective Redesign conference materials for a selected designer conference and reimagine it’s a visual representation. The project focuses on a mixed-use of multilayered photography and a type system. The American Institute of Architecture (AIA), Blueprint for a better future conference was held in Las Vegas in 2019. The materials redesigned are a poster, schedule brochure, signage, website, app, and badge. connecting The future of architecture is about chasing organic forms. This could be seen from Zaha Hadid’s work, Mad Architecture’s design and the introduction of greens for new commercial buildings around the world. The goal of this project is to use traditional architecture drawings and organic elements to make the connection between where the architecture is today and where the architecture is heading.

64/65 Freeing Voices objective Select a topic involving my personal interest and create three visual design sets to guide audiences in taking action. The design system must request the target audience to take action. It can’t merely be raising awareness or help to make an informed decision. The topic I selected is—Getting people to vote at a state level. Ballot measure will include both representative and policy measure. What is stopping people from voting? How can we get people to vote? connecting I created a visual design that is uplifting to the current political climate by using modern geometric shapes. The system focuses on providing clarity to the general public while guiding them through a series of visual queues. I chose platforms that will help make a better connection with the general public for my design; the first system is a mobile software application to helps answer people’s questions from state officials. The second system is a pop-up booth to guide people with the voter registration process. The last platform is a super town hall to help registered voters vote and meet their state officials. 68

78 /79 Tasting Memory objective Create a personal visual journal representing our day-to-day life— collect materials for a week and create a stor yboard to make the journal unique and personalized. The purpose of this project is to create something meaningful and visually engaging out of our day to day life. This is a visual experiment, so the design focus is on selfexpression rather than meeting requirements. connecting I created a personal journal on the intricate connection between the food consumed and the memories that come with it as a result. Does eating a particular type of food triggers a wonderful or heart quenching memory in the past? Or reversely, does these memories trigger your desire to eat a particular type of food from time to time? The content is story boarded, while the visual elements makes those connections. Stor yboarding helps me write down the connection between the food I eat and the thoughts that come after.

86 /87 Thank You!
to andrew/ I almost gave up my Graphic Design path if it was not for you. Most people said I didn’t care enough for my work. What they did not know is that I lacked the skills to converge ideas in my design process. Even I was not aware of it. Your constant guidance helped me overcome my hurdles as a designer. Thank you for showing me that you care! to hunter/ I cannot begin with the amount of resources you created to help students learn throughout the years. These resources helped me build the needed skills as a designer tremendously. to John / Your persistence in setting a good type down to the smallest detail helped me build a good typography foundation. I cannot thank you enough for how it impacted every visual composition since. to mary/ Thank you so much for continuously taking your time out to give us feedback on our work. The critiques you have given us are always concise and straight to the point. I have learned tremendously from you because you give us the “how ” and the “why” in your feedback. You are the definition of a great professor, and who I strive to be. to phil / Thank you for all the in-between meetings and for guiding me through this program. This program is something I would recommend to anyone who wants to gain practical experience in the design industry. Thank you so much again! to sandra / I can never thank you enough for helping me through my most challenging time as a design student. Your workshops after the class helped me improve my design skill immensely.
