Danville’s Drew Bradley Signs with Franklin College

By Cooper Lee
Drew Bradley, the former starting catcher at Danville Community High School, plans to continue his baseball and academic career at Franklin College in the fall.
Franklin College competes in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference at the Division three level of the NCAA. Bradley received similar offers to that of Franklin, including Indiana Tech, University of Saint Francis, Trine University, Cornerstone University, and Georgetown College.
He will be studying Business Management, laying a good foundation for the future. This push forward into higher education comes on the shoulders of Bradley’s love of baseball.
“Baseball has always been my passion, and it was always a huge goal of mine to play in college. That’s just something I’ve worked toward achieving my entire high school career because I knew I didn’t want to stop playing,” explained Bradley.
Franklin College is a school that is smaller in size, but Bradley was looking for just that, saying, “I was looking for a school that was smaller in size because I was coming from a smaller school. I thought Franklin was a great fit because it was the size that I liked and it’s somewhere I think I will be able to do well both academically and athletically.”
Looking back on his four years at Danville, Bradley learned to work hard and always compete, no matter the circumstances. “Coach O’Neil went through tough times throughout my high school career, and he never gave up on any of us.” This taught Bradley that no matter the situation, it’s important to bring your best. He also credits many lessons to his parents, saying, “I would say my parents are a huge part of my academic and athletic success. My parents did everything for me and have always been supportive of me. I definitely wouldn’t be where I am without them.”
From these lessons, Bradley has learned that there is no replacement for hard work, or commitment, and he believes that many athletes need the same attributes. He offered, “Always work hard in the weight room, classroom, and on the field. Do things on your own that will make you better and keep your mind set on your goal,” as advice to aspiring college athletes.
