Find It Fresh At Hendricks County Farmers Markets

The season started last Saturday with the Danville Chamber of Commerce’s Farmers Market throwing the opening pitch. While many of the fresh vegetables were not market-ready, there were plenty of plants, crafts, and locally produced meats. From the look on the faces of these two market shoppers, the donut crop was at its peak.

First Concert

The first performance at the new Ellis Park Amphitheater will by a hometown favorite, the Levi Riggs Band, sponsored by the Danville Rotary Community Corps. The event, Friday, May 21, will include a dedication of the park’s newest facility.

New Ellis Park Amphitheater Dedication, Friday, May 21

The new amphitheater will kick off with a concert by the Levi Riggs Band. A Danville native, Levi is one of country music’s brightest and fastest rising stars, who maintains his pride in his hometown.

When the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra began performing in Ellis Park in 1986, a concrete stage was built and a removable cover added later. A few years ago, a hillside tree fell across the frame of the canvas cover, damaging it beyond repair. Plans for a new replacement began.

On Friday, May 21, the new structure, with brick pillars and a permanent roof, will be dedicated at 7 p.m., followed by a concert by the Levi Riggs Band.

Funding for the new amphitheater came from the Park’s Non-Reverting Fund, the Town’s Host Fund, and insurance money from the old structure. No taxpayer dollars were used in the construction.

Although he had played in the old amphitheater several times, it will be Levi Riggs’ first performance on the new stage. A graduate of Danville High School, Riggs has made his mark in the world of country music.

Food trucks and a beer truck will be available starting at 6 p.m. Advance tickets are $10 for adults (age 12 and under, free) and available at North Salem State Bank. Tickets at the gate will be $12 per adult.

The Danville Rotary Community Corps is sponsoring the event. The DRCC is a not-for-profit group of volunteers with a commitment to improving the lives of the Danville community through service projects and supporting community initiatives. Funds raised from this event will go back into the Danville community with a primary emphasis on youth.

Rain date will be Saturday, May 22, with same timing.

Representatives from the Exchange Club, who are all members of the Society of the Honor Guard of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, will give presentations every hour on the hour and will be available to answer questions. Video will be played in a separate area that will provide additional information and history of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and through the video allow the visitors to take a peek into the quarters under the Tomb where the guards live.

Remember not only to say the right thing in the right place, but far more difficult still, to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.
