Crew honoured for service to The Lizard Lifeboat Members of The Lizard Lifeboat have held their annual station dinner at the Housel Bay Hotel giving the RNLI the opportunity to thank and honour members of the crew. Congratulations have been paid to Dr Robert Edgerley, John Trott and his wife Cara Trott who have recently stepped down as crew members of The Lizard Lifeboat. Each was presented with certificates in honour of their achievements and commitment to the station. Former

Coxswain Phil Burgess was also honoured for his 40 year service as was former crew member Richard Woodmansey who has served the station for 30 years. Both Phil and Richard are now members of the stations Shore Crew. Darren Thirlaway who was recently passed out as Deputy Second Coxswain was also presented with a certificate in recognition of his bravery during the rescue of the yacht "Marique" in May of this year. Darren jumped aboard the moving yacht from the lifeboat

A team of Navy fund raisers from Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose pitched their target pretty high when they organised a sponsored climb at "Granite Planet" in Penryn. The event, organised by Squadron Charities Officer, Petty Officer Aircrewman Shona Smith, set out to climb the equivalent of Mount

Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa and the highest free-standing mountain in the world, on the indoor climbing walls of the leisure centre. Along with nine other members of 824 Naval Air Squadron the group calculated how they would tackle the 5,895 metres (19,341 ft) challenge. In true naval fashion and adding a

The Golden Oldies, boosting with the help of Commanding Officer 824 NAS, Commander Steve Thomas managed their total climb in a good time of 4 hours exactly. The Young Ones, with the younger other five members marginally beat their time, clocking up 3 hour and 45 minutes. Overall they managed to raise ÂŁ954 to support Heidiâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Quest, a Charity that supports local poorly children who have terminal or life limiting conditions. Special mention has to go to two of the group. Leading Air Engineer Technician Ryan Cox who was commended as the most energetic and successful climber of the day, whilst Sub Lieutenant Max White was thanked for his clear guidance throughout the event, and ensuring the climbing was injury free and successful. "I'm very proud of the all people from the squadron that even during such a busy and testing time, we can support such a worthy cause that will help the community", said Commander Steve Thomas. "We are seeing a lot of trainees coming through our doors and it's great that people have still found time to support this charity". Thanks were also shown to Tony Windo, the owner of Granite Planet in Penryn for setting up the walls and allowing the use of his facilities for the naval personnel.

ACT1 Youth Theatre celebrate history of Disney animation in new production The history of Disney Animation is being celebrated by ACT1 youth theatre this Christmas in a colourful production called Imagination 2. Starting from 1928 to the present, this fun show promises some magical surprises and contains songs from Snow White, Dumbo, and Aristocats to Frozen with just the right amount of humour to assist the magic. 80 young people from the age of 6-18 have been busy rehearsing since there Cornish premier of Andrew Lloyd Webbers Cats in May. Funds raised from ticket sales will go towards next year’s production of “Guys and Dolls” and Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” both being staged in May next year. Wendron CC A lost the first frame against the Rodney Inn A team but they won every other frame for an 81 victory and they hold on to a 5 point lead lead ahead of Helston FC A who defeated Constantine SC by the same score. Lizard FC A had a 7-2 win over the Boathouse and Godolphin Club F defeated White Hart B by the same score. Wins from Pete Hall, Paul Finbow and Julian Vandenburgh helped the Rodney Inn B team to a well needed 5-4 win over Mullion FC A. Godolphin Club B made the biggest impact in division 2 with a 9-0 whitewash over Helston RFC B to move their way up the table while leaders Wendron CC B went down to a 5-4 defeat to Helston RFC C. Helston CC finally found some form with a good 7-2 win against Paris A, singles wins coming from Dave Frew, Jason Hocking, Stefan Meagor, Jamie Borrett and Josh Ninnis and Helston RBL D moved up the table after a 7-2 win against the Bell Inn A.

Last week's division 3 leaders Helston RFC D suffered defeat for the first time this season as wins from Dave Morris, Andy McCormack and Mark Grigor helped Mullion FC B to a 5-4 win against the leaders. Second placed team, Five Pilchards also suffered a 5-4 defeat against the Lion & Lamb B team as did third placed team Potters Bar B who lost by the same score against the Harbour Inn. The Mounts Bay had the biggest win with an 8-1 victory over Lizard FC C and there was also a 6-3 victory for Helston FC B. In division 4 wins from Rob Andrews, Steve Hill and Andy Brown helped Black Swan B team to a 6-3 win over the Wheel Inn while Out of the Blue B gained a 7-2 win over Red Lion A. Out of the Blue A were not to be outdone by their B team as they defeated the Seven Stars 7-2 and Paris A won all 3 doubles to defeat the Queens Arms 5-4. Atlantic Inn B had a good win against leaders Three Tuns with a 5-4 success.

Leave for at least 1 minute, if the juices run clear the turkey is cooked, if they run pinkish, return to the oven and cook for a little longer. Allow to rest (which makes the meat easier to carve), lightly covered with foil in a warm place for at least 20-30 minutes before carving and serving. Alternatively, test with a temperature probe, which must be 72 degrees C or above in the thickest part of the breast for 2 mins.
