The 11th Floor Rooftop Restaurant and Cocktail Bar in Bedfordview took top honours at the prestigious World Culinary Awards Gala Ceremony in Dubai this October. The dining destination was dubbed Africa’s Best Rooftop Restaurant, testament to their unwavering commitment to excellence when it comes to culinary arts. Apart from its breathtaking views, the restaurant boasts exquisite cuisine, personalised service, luxurious décor and live music. The menu includes a celebration of Italian and Mediterranean flavours, with Chef Kyle Marshall personifying his passion for food brilliantly. “Our mission is to take guests on a gastronomic odyssey awakening their senses and challenging their preconceptions,” he says. “We aim to create an environment where each dish is a masterpiece, narrating an enchanting tale.” The 11th Floor offers quite the journey when it comes to cuisine.

Embarc Restaurant

We recently dined at the Parkhurst-based Embarc Restaurant as part of a wine tasting event with Durbanville Wine Valley and we were utterly impressed. It was the ideal opportunity for Embarc to introduce their new menu to a crowd that appreciates good food and wine and well, it comes highly recommended. The experience commenced with bubblies from Nitida and Klein Roosboom, coupled with delicious canapés including Oysters, Apple Meringues and Mushroom Tacos. This was followed by a four-course meal, kicking off with a starter of Tuna Loin with Harissa, Green Olives, Sesame and Radish. The entrée was a delightful Lobster Risotto with Saffron, Champagne and Parmesan Cheese, and Confit Duck Leg was served as the main course, with Polenta, Dukkah and a Blueberry Winter Spiced Jus. For dessert, we were treated to Embarc’s Irish-born owner’s own version of South Africa’s traditional Malva Pudding. He calls it ‘Not Your Tannie’s Malva’ and it comes with chocolate, caramel, vanilla and orange – simply sensational! It was paired with Bloemendal’s Noble Late Harvest while the rest of the meal was paired with wines from various Durbanville Wine Valley farms, including Maastricht, Diemersdal, Durbanville Hills, De Grendel, D’Aria, Groot Phesantekral and Meerendal.

Ethos Restaurant

Ethos Restaurant has just launched its latest menu and we’re so here for it! Meticulously curated by the illustrious Chef Moses Moloi, you’re certainly in for a reimagined Mediterranean culinary experience of note. Based in the heart of Rosebank, the restaurant has proven itself as a dining destination worth visiting. The Mediterranean serves as inspiration here – the warmth of its spirit, as well as the romance of its tales and its people. Somehow, the timelessness of the Mediterranean’s ancient and iconic landscapes is epitomised in the eatery’s décor, as well as its menu. Indulge in Ethos’ delicious cuisine in a dramatic, yet inviting setting with sweeping arches and grand columns.

La Ciccia

The popular Italian restaurant, Settebello in Bedfordview has recently expanded its offering, including a monthly meat experience with La Ciccia by Settebello. The owners – both from Italian heritage and keen to educate their guests on the culinary heritage of their country – have embarked on this new venture, passionately explaining each dish on the nine-course menu to discerning diners. The menu consists of mainly meat dishes, since Carne Diem is what it’s all about at La Ciccia. Guests get to indulge in typical Italian-style meat cuts and preparation methods, paired with wonderful wines. Long tables are set to encourage guests to ‘meat’ and mingle like Italians do. It’s a vibe, that’s for sure.
