c c c c c c c c c c c c c c c c c c Look for inspiration in fabric & wallpaper patterns. Search second-hand stores to find colours, pieces and looks that intrigue you.

Add some depth and texture with vintage accessories like buttons, brooches, or lace available at second-hand stores, for your invitations, place cards, menus or programs.

Feature calligraphy, hand-done or digitally created. Utilise vintage clip art, such as Dover.

Carry your pattern throughout all stationary to create consistency and theme.

Hand address envelopes or consider a postcard style delivery, without envelope.

EPHEMERA

Don’t be matchy-matchy! Rather, mix & match to create unique, romantic or quirky looks. Use your patterns in different formats: on the back of the invitation, as the envelope liner, or as the background of a frame that showcases your seating chart. Choose a colour scheme that is soft and pastel-like, add in warm metallic, and/or jewel tones for some pop.

c c c c c c c c c c c c c c c c c Customise your lips to complete the story: Light pink lips look softer and more delicate which would compliment your demure and shy eyes. A dark red lip tone works well with your sultry and seductive side.

Adorn a traditional vintage look: warm dark red lips, medium to full coverage foundation, with a red or darker pink blush. Focus on your eyes to tell the story: You can be (1) demure and shy, (2) dramatic and bold, or (3) sweet and seductive, all at the same time.

BEAUTY experts >> lisa + blushworks jayna + jayna-marie makeup

Ensure hair style is a continuation of your theme: if you’re having a relaxed, outdoors celebration, consider soft, airy tousled waves with just the front twisted back. Try hair accessories! For something vintage, borrow a vintage brooch from a relative. For something rustic, think about matching elements of your surroundings: wild flowers, feathers, sea shells, crafty butterflies.

Remain timeless by thinking simple yet sculpted. A light cream colour lid, with a soft to medium brown in your crease, will contour to create a soft yet dramatic eye. Use an eyeshadow that mimics your natural brow colour to fill in any sparse spots. Ensure your well groomed eyebrows frame your face. Liquid eyeliner must be thick and slightly winged on the outer eye.

As long you're comfortable and confident, it doesn’t have to be complicated: simply braiding a ponytail at the back of your head and twisting it in to a bun can create a chic and interesting look. Don't forget the climate! If your hair doesn’t hold curls, don’t wear it down and curly. Heat, humidity, gravity, wind rain are all hair villains.

PROPS + DECOR expert >> kailey + kailey-michelle events jessica + trove vintage

c c c c c c c c c c c c c c c c c c Get creative and find new purposes for old stuff. Use pieces that express who you are as a couple. Keep in mind: you don’t have to use pieces for what they were originally intended for. Search your home & find what means the most. Any special books, trinkets or house hold items? Do you have a favourite picture or go-to colour scheme? Look through the homes of family and friends. Is there anything of theirs that you adore, admire or has special significance to you? Do they have heirlooms, props or accent pieces that could be borrowed to achieve your look? Things like lace, satin, brooches, your mother’s veil, grandmother's jewellery and heirloom tea sets, all contribute to that vintage feel. Venture public: at thrift stores, flea markets, garage sales and craft fairs. You can find almost anything and for relatively little money.

PLANNING expert >> kailey + kailey-michelle events

For a truly personalised affair, look inward. Present things that are a genuine reflection of your lifestyle and your loves. Determine what vintage means to you (rustic and relaxed, or proper and elaborate) and create a vision board to properly communicate your look to vendors. With all the extra time needed for decor sourcing and stylise on the day, give yourself more time to plan and consider hiring help, like an event planner.

When sourcing decor, wear your rose coloured glasses and envision the items clean, clear of clutter and in its appropriate place. When it comes to setting the scene, more is better: consider borrowing or renting where possible to remain budget friendly. Don’t over-look small details, like food signs, fun activities or games and takehome treats. Go the extra mile and make sure each element of your wedding had your special touch. Search online through sites like etsy.com and 100 layer Cake’s Pop-up Shop. Search local rental and decor companies.

c c c c c c c c c c c c c c c c c SPACES expert >> kailey + kailey-michelle events

Think non-traditional locations, like barns, rural land, parks or local gardens. If you prefer a structured setting, consider a heritage building, a unique hall or an old home. Pick a setting that has meaning - your favourite beach, park, mom's backyard or the place where your fiancé proposed. Marry and eat in a unique fashion: marry on a bridge, arrive by row boat, eat at picnic tables, mingle in an orchard. Let your setting tell the story by stringing its attributes through your theme.

SWEETS experts >> lyndsay + coco cake

Look to old vintage baking books (1950s-1970s) found online, in thrift stores or used books stores for inspiration there are so many ways to use buttercream and frosting! Don’t overlook cake stands and accessories perhaps your grandmother’s stand from her own bridal shower, or find vintage pedestals online or in vintage shops. Feature a vintage wedding topper of a bride and groom, a custom-made wooden topper painted to look antique or paper crafts, like bunting. Display your cake in a way that evokes the past. An ornate metal table, an old wooden table with beauty marks, crates, wheel barrel, beautiful vintage fabric tablecloths, cake pedestals, vintage silver platters, and cake servers, all add to a vintage feel. Consider cake alternatives that tickle your fancy, like a selection of home-made pies, grandma’s famous cakes, a s’mores bar or a cookie and milk station. Think outside the box.

Consider unconventional elements such as old pieces of lace, handmade fabric or felt flowers to create accessories. Don’t be afraid to DIY! Nod to a certain era, like the flapper era, with feather hairpieces. Add wispy, elegant plumes to your bridal hairpiece. Accessorise with vintage pieces like buttons, brooches, or lace available at second-hand stores. Consider wearing a family heirloom or find vintage jewellery at a second-hand store. For a more modern twist on vintage accessories, shop online stores like etsy.com.

GOWN expert >> kathryn + pure something

Add a vintage brooch or oversized accessory to a sash or at the bottom of a corset back. Pair a custom designed pearl and/or lace belt with a simple gown. Have your mother's or grandmother's dress that has special meaning restyled into a dress that is modern with a vintage touch. Custom design a dress using vintage fabrics or laces. Accessorise with an heirloom veil or vintage jewellery. Have a family locket, hanky or other meaningful trinket sewn to the inside of your gown.

c c c c c c c c c c c c c c c c c FLORALS expert >> kailey + kailey-michelle events

Remember your feel. For a whimsically eclectic wedding, play with something unique like succulents, ranunculus and craspedia. For a soft and romantic feeling, consider alchemilla, lavender, hellebore and hydrangeas. Select an assortment of garden flowers, simply bundled as if they were just picked. Provide a few inspirational photos for colour, feel and style, but ultimately, give your florist creative freedom to wow you. Dress them up! Display your flowers in vintage pitchers, planters, old glass and retro, charity-shop finds! Accessorise, Accessorise, Accessorise! Consider things like burlap, buttons, feathers, lace and brooches.

PORTRAITS expert >> jeanie + stu-di-o

Vintage style has everything to do with content, colour and saturation. Aging a photograph used to take time. But now, with post-production, any image can be tweaked to give it that vintage look. Vintage photos look faded and soft in contrast. Look for a photographer who has shown consistency in their portfolio to deliver that vintage flair that you are looking for. During your portrait session, bring along vintage content to add to your vintage portraiture. Props such as vintage cameras, shoes from a different era, a brooch or a pin in your outfit that is an heirloom piece or sourced from a vintage store, will help make your image become more vintage. Almost any location can be made to look vintage as long as you have the right props. Keep an eye out for old cars, furniture from a different era, rustic settings and vintage clothing to help with the content of your photos.

MAC OR PC? Mac, definitely! DESCRIBE YOUR PERFECT SUNDAY It would include meeting friends for coffee in the morning, buying a takeout lunch after church to eat at the park and then antiquing until the sun goes down. STARBUCKS, TIM HORTONS OR CAFE ARTIGIANO?

All three. I'm a sucker for a well crafted, velvety latte but since there aren't nearly as many artisan coffee shops in the Fraser Valley, Starbucks and Tim Horton's end up being my go-to's; Starbucks for hot drinks and Tim Hortons for the icy ones! SWEET OR SAVOURY? Sweet - times a hundred! FLATS OR HEELS If I could wear heels all the time, I'd feel like a bombshell! But practically, flats are more my thing. NEVER LEAVE THE HOUSE WITHOUT Striking a pose in front of the mirror to check out my outfit. PERSONAL MANTRA "Be wonderful"

WHY YOU DO WHAT YOU DO? I can't stop. I've made artsy crafty things my entire life. I want to make something new every second. I guess it's in my blood. GO TO MAGAZINE Before Heirloom? I don't really read magazines except at the hair salon - the gossip kind that are junk food for the mind. YOUR ROLE MODEL OR GREATEST INSPIRATION? For style - Marilyn Monroe.

For life - my husband.

MAC OR PC? I like to have my cake, and eat it too. I use my PC for emails and word docs, But everything else is done from my iPad (which I could not live without). DESCRIBE YOUR PERFECT SUNDAY My perfect Sunday would have to be waking up to a clean house, a sleeping toddler, being able to shower without interruption and then enjoying a cup of tea. Followed by anything that involves spending quality time with my darling husband and daughter.

Lisa Bastien BLUSHWORKS MAKEUP

STARBUCKS, TIM HORTON'S OR CAFE ARTIGIANO?

Starbucks all the way! Mmmmmmm skinny vanilla latte or a Peppermint mocha. Oh! and one of those little mini peanut butter cupcake things. Add Starbucks to my "perfect Sunday" :) SWEET OR SAVOURY? Sweet!

FLATS OR HEELS? I'm 5'2 so heels are a must. I am a firm believer in "if you weren't born with it, fake it". NEVER LEAVE THE HOUSE WITHOUT As sad as it is, my Blackberry. My husband thinks I spend more time with it, than I do with him. This statement may or may not be true. LOL. Other than that, I am good with sheer pink gloss and some blush. PERSONAL MANTRA What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us. -Ralph Waldo Emerson WHY YOU DO WHAT YOU DO? I never felt like a pretty girl growing up, I felt like the ugly duckling. It was a horrible feeling. I got into makeup to help others who view themselves as the duckling discover that they really are a swan. One of the most gratifying things I experienced is watching someone as they take the first glance at themselves, and knowing in my heart that they feel Beautiful. GO TO MAGAZINE? Vogue & Vanity Fair. Anna Wintour is the Fairy Godmother of Fashion, and I believe that makeup and fashion are sole mates. YOUR ROLE MODEL OR GREATEST INSPIRATION

My Mum. She inspires me everyday. I see in her the things that I hope to instill in my daughter: that true beauty comes from within and your reflection is seen in the positive impact you make in others' lives <3

UNIQUITY DESIGN | UNIQUITY INVITATIONS

MAC OR PC? I have owned a Mac for about 13 years... so Mac all the way for me. It's what I learned on in design school, and they just work without much issue. DESCRIBE YOUR PERFECT SUNDAY

My perfect Sunday would include sleeping in a bit, sitting on the couch with a coffee and my family. Then heading outside to a park, forest or beach purely unplugged. STARBUCKS, TIM HORTONS OR CAFE ARTIGIANO?

Tall americano with cream from Starbucks. But I can drink other coffees... as long as it is strong. SWEET OR SAVOURY? Savoury - my guilty pleasure is chips and dip, or cheese. But I do love salted dark chocolate from time to time.

FLATS OR HEELS I do like heels when I go out, but I pretty much live in flats. Though since I have a home studio, I actually don't wear shoes most of the day. NEVER LEAVE THE HOUSE WITHOUT Not much really - my wallet. Since I choose not to own a cell phone for now, I travel pretty light. PERSONAL MANTRA Just be polite. You don't have to love everyone, but there is nothing wrong with being polite, and keeping your thoughts to yourself. Be present with the person you are in front of... turn off your phone if you have to. WHY YOU DO WHAT YOU DO? My daughter asked me that the other day. I simply told her, I love making people happy. I also love business, and educating about the different ways design can really help businesses. On the wedding side of things, I love when I can help my couples tell their story. And really, I just love getting the chance to design pretty things! GO TO MAGAZINE

Canadian Living + Martha Stewart. YOUR ROLE MODEL OR GREATEST INSPIRATION? I really love Martha Stewart, I think

what she has created is simply incredible. She paved the way for many of us in the wedding industry to be able to create what we do.

MAC OR PC? I have to say my Mac has served me well for the past few years and has only tested my patience minimally. DESCRIBE YOUR PERFECT SUNDAY My perfect Sunday would involve my husband and I and our dogs enjoying a sunny picnic in a quiet meadow, after I have scoured the local flea markets. STARBUCKS, TIM HORTON'S OR CAFE ARTIGIANO?

Usually none of the above as I prefer finding small independent coffee bistros, but really, anywhere that serves a delicious London Fog is good for me.

Jessica Macdonald TROVE VINTAGE RENTALS

SWEET OR SAVOURY? I am a full out sugar addict. Dark chocolate is an everyday craving that, unfortunately for my blood sugar levels, I usually succumb to. FLATS OR HEELS? Being over 5’-10” doesn’t give me much choice. Heels are fun, but given that I’m a creature of comfort, I pick flats, and if I didn’t live in BC, I would be found in sandals all year long. NEVER LEAVE THE HOUSE WITHOUT I suppose the only item I don’t leave without are my keys, and if I do I never get too far. PERSONAL MANTRA I don’t really have an actual mantra that I live by, but I do believe in showing kindness over judgement, laughing at yourself versus taking things too seriously, and being thankful for and enjoying every blessing. WHY YOU DO WHAT YOU DO? I know for some people there isn’t a choice, and for others, they are completely content with working for the weekends, but I couldn’t imagine not doing something I love for a living. I love the creativity involved with what I do and how no day or job is the same. When you’re passionate about something, and you feel that there is purpose behind it, there are no limits to how your business can grow and how you can grow as an individual. GO TO MAGAZINE? It should be no surprise that I am a huge fan of Flea Market Style. Great tips on re-purposing vintage pieces and where to find some great markets. YOUR ROLE MODEL OR GREATEST INSPIRATION

I’ll get sappy here, and say my Parents are my role models. They are kind, funny, and completely genuine people, not to mention they have been married for 30 years and are still crazy about one another. That’s all any of us really need to aspire to.

Kathryn Bass PURE SOMETHING

MAC OR PC? PC (despite my husband's best efforts to convert me). DESCRIBE YOUR PERFECT SUNDAY Sunny day at Spanish Banks when the tide is out, with husband, doggy and coffee, (and now baby!) STARBUCKS, TIM HORTON'S OR CAFE ARTIGIANO?

Not only does the staff at my Starbucks know my name and drink, they also know my dog. By name.

SWEET OR SAVOURY? They say some people have a sweet tooth. I have several. FLATS OR HEELS? Pre-baby: Heels. Postspraining-ankle-while-9-months-pregnant: Flats :( NEVER LEAVE THE HOUSE WITHOUT:

Going back for something I forgot!

PERSONAL MANTRA Pay attention to where you are going because without meaning, you might get nowhere. WHY YOU DO WHAT YOU DO? I love creating. I love the endless possibilities that lie in a simple piece of fabric. I love being a part of making a bride feel her most beautiful on such a special day, and I am humbled each time I am asked to be a part of such an important event. I love my job. GO TO MAGAZINE? Bridal magazines! Preferably French or Italian. I'm not fluent, but I can read the pictures. YOUR ROLE MODEL OR GREATEST INSPIRATION? I don't think I could narrow it down

to one. I admire so many different traits of so many special people. I am so fortunate to be surrounded by family and friends who offer unconditional support.

MAC OR PC? Mac... for purely superficial reasons. I think they're prettier. Haha DESCRIBE YOUR PERFECT SUNDAY Lying in a hammock with a gentle breeze, sipping homemade iced tea and listening to Paolo Nutini. *long sigh* STARBUCKS, TIM HORTONS OR CAFE ARTIGIANO?

Blenz! They're Canadian and they have hands down the best chocolate drinks (real melted Belgian chocolate!) And their matcha isn't sweetened.

Jayna Marie JAYNA-MARIE MAKEUP + HAIR

SWEET OR SAVOURY? I didn't know there was another option besides sweet! FLATS OR HEELS? It depends... where are we going? Heels to impress, flats to relax. NEVER LEAVE THE HOUSE WITHOUT?

My eyebrows filled in and blush.

PERSONAL MANTRA "Keep it Classy!" or "In order to get what you want, first you have to know what you want." WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO? It's exciting, I get to be creative, hear peoples love stories and it's different every day. GO TO MAGAZINE? Oxygen <-- I'm obsessed with researching healthy food! YOUR ROLE MODEL OR GREATEST INSPIRATION? Marilyn Monroe for her beauty and

quirkiness. Gwen Stefani for mastering the blend of vintage glam and rocker chic, and my Mom for being the perfect example of a smart, independent business woman.

MAC OR PC? Mac. I admire Apple’s philosophy and dedication to developing a first-class lifestyle brand. The marketing nerd in me applauds and commits whole heartedly. DESCRIBE YOUR PERFECT SUNDAY. Morning coffee with my hubby before heading off to church for worship, followed by an afternoon stroll along with water with our labradoodle Guiness. And in the evening, we’d cook an elaborate dinner for two, together, to share over candlelight, with our favourite bottle of vino. STARBUCKS, TIM HORTONS OR CAFE ARTIGIANO?

Starbucks. It’s my not-so-guilty pleasure and I'm a loyalist to the core. I count down the days to red cup season and admire their ability to continually curate impeccable brand recognition. SWEET OR SAVOURY? Both! and I have an evening ritual to attest to it: 5pm Savoury (veggie chips with salsa) 9pm: Sweet (gummy candy or Lindt chocolate) FLATS OR HEELS? Keep them cute and stylish and flit between the two. But truth be told, I most frequently sport a heel! NEVER LEAVE THE HOUSE WITHOUT? My iPhone (usually for the camera), lipstick and hand sanitizer. (OCD anyone?!) PERSONAL MANTRA “I will hold myself to a standard of grace, rather than perfection.” Emily Ley WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO? I adore love. From the simple to the extravagant moments and everything in between, these times remind us love is what makes life worth living; it’s truly all we need! Checking out a brand new restaurant for brunch with my husband, and connecting with good friends. STARBUCKS, TIM HORTONS OR CAFE ARTIGIANO?

I love the swirly patterns that the baristas make on top of my drink at Cafe Artigiano. Cafe art, they call it, but I call it a reason for me to slow down and enjoy my latte.

Eyebrow pencil, Eyeliner, Lip gloss and my iPhone PERSONAL MANTRA Be the change you wish to see in the world. (Gandhi) WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO? In this journey we call life, we meet so many people along the way, and once in a lifetime, there's that special someone who just GETS you, and loves you for who you are. That kind of unique bond between two people is such an amazing coming together of two beings, and I love that I can capture the essence of it in a series of photographs. That's what drives my passion for photography, and for my business. That's what drives what I do. GO TO MAGAZINE?
