General Manager's Report

PAUL C. ARKWRIGHT

General Manager Well it’s been a hot couple of months, and plenty happening both on and off the water at Hebe. Here’s a little roundup…

Hebe happenings In keeping with our diverse membership, we’ve been putting on a diverse range of member events—sometimes all on the same day! Saturday 16 July, for example, saw a triple event at the Club with Summer Saturday Series out on the water (with Meals on Keels), Live Rugby on the big screen in the Garden Bar (with Burgers and Bangers fresh from the BBQ) and a private swanky dinner function in the Inner Restaurant (with an amazing spread laid on by Chef Dennis) all in addition to our usual Restaurant & Balcony covers. Well done team Hebe for pulling all of that off!

Tailor-made private dinners Why not treat yourself and your friends to a private banquet gathering in the Inner Restaurant, where we can accommodate up to 30 diners. Chef Dennis will sit down with you and design a tailor-made menu for you and your guests. Whether you have specific dishes in mind or want us to come up with something creative— Dennis is your man with a plan and a pan (well quite a few actually). Contact us fnb_mgr@hhyc.org.hk or call 2719 7916 for details.

New menus on the way Chef Dennis who came on board in late June has been doing a phenomenal job in the kitchen and you’ll start to see some new dishes (and some old favourites back) on the menu. We’re gradually paring down the menu, while increasing the frequency with which we rotate items on there. This helps further reduce food wastage and allows you to enjoy seasonal items and more regular changes in offerings on the menu.

Enjoy a day out on Hebe One We’re making booking Hebe One that bit easier with a new online booking system, that enables you to see what dates are available for hire and book it with a couple of clicks for parties on the water of up to 21 people. Check the availability of Hebe One and book your next trip today – simply scan the QR code.

Wonderful washrooms The female changing & assessable washroom are already in service and have been well received. The marbling on the floors is intentional and part of the non-slip design to help keep you safe even when it gets wet with batches of swimwear-clad mini sailors coming in and out. The male changing room renovation work started on 11 July and will hopefully be finished soon after you’ve read this. Guys your turn now to use the temporary washrooms in the car park.

Keeping everyone safe COVID protection We can expect more of the same in terms of COVID regs. At the time of writing, on 26 July the Government had again extended existing social distancing regulations to 10 August. The Club continues to follow our COVID-prevention protocols, and as an extra precaution now also requires all students and instructors attending Sailing Centre and Sailability Courses to conduct daily RAT tests and show a negative result before coming on-site.

I thank everyone for their continued patience in adhering to the regulations which we all have to follow and, in summary, still require: 1. Wearing a mask at all times in the Club (unless seated in the dining areas consuming F&B). 2. Using your LHSApp to scan in at the Club entrances together with a temperature check. 3. Using the Vaccine bubble LHSApp to scan in at the Restaurant & Balcony entrance together with a Vaccine check and temperature check. 4. Not gathering in groups of more than 4 anywhere in the Club, except in the designated Vaccine Bubble areas where we can seat up to 8 at a table.

Pest protection In the hot months, as well as the sun coming out, so too do the midges and mozzies. To help mitigate, we have installed new mosquito/sand-fly traps around the Club and stepped up pest-control measures club-wide.

F&B protection We’ve also stepped up our back-of-house inspections and are conducting twice-daily random checks on the kitchen and food storage areas—to ensure all F&B staff adhere to our strict health and safety policies—giving you further peace of mind in everything served from our F&B outlets.

People protection Works have commenced on the boat rack safety walkaways, which is why you will see a few more boats sitting on the hardstand rather than in the racks, as they are decanted off to allow the fitting of the new walkways to help keep our boatyard staff safe, while they tie down your boats in bad weather.

I’ll keep you posted with my periodic updates by email, and will continue to respond to all your questions and suggestions that you send in. Until then, enjoy yourselves on the water and come sample some of our scrummy new menu items when you get back ashore.
