JCB Adds First Reduced Swing Machine To X-Series Excavator Line Embracing technology to keep competitive is built into the DNA of Curbside Construction, a multi-generational concrete paving contractor based in the GTA. That forward thinking has resulted in a unique set-up for the company's latest GOMACO machine, which Larry Di Pietro, owner, says has halved the amount of time that it takes his crew to pave dolly pads for large distribution centres in Ontario. Curbside Construction Formed in 1986, Curbside Construction started primarily as a curb and sidewalk construction company with expertise in slipform paving concrete curbs, barrier walls and sidewalks.

The 245XR is the first reduced swing model in the X-Series crawler excavator line from JCB. The new model falls into the 22-26 ton reduced swing market, with exceptional levels of operator comfort, stability, productivity, efficiency, and serviceability.

Shorter swing fits tighter spaces

At just 5 feet 8 inches, the 245XR has a tail swing 40 percent shorter than the conventional 220X, but with many of the same features, providing a highly effective excavator for use in road construction and maintenance, utility work, urban settings and other confined worksites. The 245XR is equipped with a 9 foot, 10 inch dipper arm, for increased breakout or maximum reach. With the monoboom, this powerful machine offers a maximum digging reach of 32 feet 1 inch, with a maximum digging depth of 21 feet 9 inches. Additionally, with a choice of 24, 28 or 31 inch heavy-duty track pads, the 245XR offers exceptional stability, for digging across track and for lifting heavy loads. An optional dozer blade is offered, for maximum versatility.

Exceptional comfort Like all JCB X-Series machines, the 245XR features a three-foot wide cab, offering 15 percent more cab space than the cab on the previous JS generation. This is the largest and among the most quiet - cab in its class. And with a range of seating options, and exceptional standard features such as an adjustable air suspended seat with mechanical lumbar support, the 245XR delivers maximum operator comfort throughout the workday. Additionally, a deluxe seat with heating and cooling, plus electric lumbar, is available as an option. For ease of control, updated CommandPlus switch packs sit to the right of the seat with a large 7 inch multifunction display. The X-Series cab also features 11 fully adjustable air vents, with multiple airflow modes for operator preference depending on weather conditions. There is plenty of storage around the cab, with a large space behind the operator's seat, while the rubber floor and storage area mats can be removed for easy cleaning, if necessary. Climate control, a factory-fit Bluetooth radio, window blinds, refuelling pump and a tool kit are standard while specific climatecontrol features to meet the demands of individual regions are available.

Powerful efficiency The 245XR is powered by a powerful Tier 4 Final compliant JCB Ecomax 448 diesel engine delivering 173hp. For outstanding efficiency, the engine is engineered for Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) with no Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) requirement and is equipped with Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR). The hydraulic system uses latest generation Kawasaki pumps, and a Kayaba main control valve for precise control. The hydraulic hose diameter has been increased to deliver improved flow with less resistance, boosting performance and efficiency. Although the machine is equipped with compact rear bodywork, the 245XR features large service doors, providing easy access for routine maintenance. Wide, well-spaced steps and grab rails provide upper structure access, for increased safety. For simpler servicing and reduced downtime, air and hydraulic filter life can reach 2,000 hours, while engine oil changes are extended 500-hour intervals.
