- Heartland Model Agency was founded in 2006 by Jorgen Jorgensen and Emma Hassel. Today we are one of Scandinavian's most prestigious modelling agencies based in Sweden with offices in New York, Miami, Toronto, Paris, London and Moscow and ready to continue grow worldwide. We take pride in scouting and developing new talent for international modelling careers. Heartland Model Agency offers a variety of the best talent for runway, editorial, print & commercial image campaigns.

Royal Blount Editor in Chief, Heartland Model Magazine I was born and raised in New York. I started to pursue modeling at the age of 19. Due to the fact I was focused on obtaining my Bachelor degree following a modeling schedule became difficult so I decided to work behind the scene of the fashion industry. This was a blessing because I discovered my passion for runway coaching and coordinating. I always had leadership qualities but now I am able to utilize my leadership skills, my gift for helping others, my passion for modeling and combine them together. My journey has been nothing short of interesting even with the obstacles I had to push through but I am happy I did because it led me to Heartland Model Agency Team. It was a pleasure utilizing my creative skills for this first edition. The Heartland Model Magazine is everything that you can ask for. It delivers all answers to your questions about the fashion industry from models perspective, which has been missing in other magazines. The best part of our work was the individuals from our team, or shall I say family, who helped this vision come alive. Cristal Bermea Heartland Head Fashion Stylist I was born and raised in Texas and moved to New York City to pursue my passion for personal styling. I have always had an itch to step out of ordinary by expressing myself and helping others do the same through fashion. I attended FIT and worked on some wonderful projects there. I've collaborated with well-known stylists, photographers, personal shoppers and fashion magazines. With my keen eye for style and some determination I’ve been able to build my New York dream. I’m extremely excited to be selected as part of the Heartland Model Agency team. It's been the most rewarding to see what we’ve accomplished and what is yet to come.

Stephani Cudal Heartland Fashion Director / Fashionista I was born and raised in the Philippines. Fashion changes, but style endures. Coco Chanel's maxim holds true to my fashion and design sense. I envision style that transforms akin to the impact of light on the human biological system. I like to tap into the different mood dimensions brought about by the nuances of light and its effect on color and design. For me, there is no one set pattern that sets apart casual from formal. My background spans formal studies in Fine Arts and directing art and fashion events.

Heartland Angel MISS EMMA HASSEL We would like to introduce you to our gorgeous models from Heartland Model Agency. Our first model is Swedish Top model and Heartland Angel Miss Emma Hassel! Where are you from? Malmo, Sweden How was it growing up in Malmo, Sweden? I grew up in a nice family home in a small town outside of Malmo, so it was good. Do you believe that growing up in Malmo, Sweden had any influence on your modeling career now? Well not my upbringing per say, but having a supporting family always helps. They took me to my first agency.

I got a contract with a small agency, and I was really happy about this, but nothing ever happened there. I was there for almost a year and still nothing. So then Jorgen and I started to work on what later became Heartland Model Agency. I would say my discovery came when I did Paris Fashion Week for the first time, through Heartland.

Wow that is amazing to hear, is this one of the reasons you decided to sign with Heartland Model Agency? Well, I was actually starting the agency together with Jorgen. It all started with him wanting to help me with my modeling since Okay you seem like a simple girl based on your nothing would happen in the agency I was background. Where did everything start? How signed with at the time (15yo). were you discovered?

Jorgen found a way to host a fashion show at the grand opening of a luxury mall in our city and we worked on that for 2 weeks and it was a success. We did all of it from scratch without knowing

anything about the business at all. In the end we believe it went very well and was really fun. The models we had gathered for the show liked it and wanted to continue.

It took about a year after that to learn all about the business and then to open Heartland officially. How is the Heartland Model Agency as a team? The best ever! Sure, some that come in don't understand that loyalty and friendship is important, and we have had a few of them over three years. In general we have a really great atmosphere and strong friendship in the agency, especially amongst the group of models that been around a long time. We are like a family! Why did you become a model? I know everyone has interesting stories or reasons for pursuing the path of modeling, I

want to know what is your reason for being a model? I think it was mostly to have confirmation. To have other people state that I am good at something and that I am beautiful. When I was young, I had very low self-confidence, but modeling really helped me become a strong and skillful woman. Being a part of the business side, has taught me to become a good business woman. How do you prepare for a photo-shoot? I always make sure my skin and fitness is good, to always be prepared. When I book a shoot I take extra care of my skin and hair days before. Lastly I make sure I sleep well the night before the shoot. Is this the reason you believe you are fit for modeling? As I have grown into the role, I have understood that I have a classic beauty and grace that is sought for in the industry.

It has proven itself to be that way as well, as you

can see on the jobs I have done. Do you have a big support system? Yes, Jorgen and the rest of the management are a very good support system. They are even there for us if we just have some issues we want to talk about or are sad. You have an amazing look, would you consider yourself stylish? What makes someone stylish in Emma’s eyes? I would think so, but sometimes I have days when I just don't care about my looks. Mostly, when I am around people who are very close to me, such as my family. When I go somewhere where other people can see me, I always think about my role as a model. First and foremost, posture and how you behave.

Of course maintaining one’s hair, skin and clothes makes a difference as well. What advice would you give to aspiring models? Listen and learn! Don't think you are already the best, because you are not. You never stop learning and it is important to always go to the classes the agency conducts, because your coaches’ see and can correct the mistakes that you don't see yourself. Also, remember that you are always a model, and people see everything you do. What you do today can stop you from getting the best job of your life in 3 years. Social media is a great example of that. If I want to work at a high level I can't post pictures of beginner jobs. If I use them to start with, they have to be taken out as my career moves up. No party pictures! THINK AHEAD! Again, do what your agent tells you to, no matter what, because they see the bigger picture and know what they are doing.

Thank you for your answers! Any last comments you want the world to know? Heartland Rocks! If someone that reads this is choosing between agencies, go to Heartland!

Heartland Angel MISS FILIPPA PERSSON

Our next amazing model is Swedish Top model and Heartland Angel Miss Filippa Persson! Introduce yourself to our readers, please. My name is Filippa Persson and I am 16 years old. I am from a small village called Väggarp in Sweden. Growing up in Sweden was good. I don’t think it’s any different from many other countries. If I would describe Sweden in three words, it would be safe, elongated and good looking people. I do not think the way that I grew up in Sweden is the main reason why I became so interested in fashion and became a model, it’s just something I always wanted. If it’s not the way you grew up, then what

was the reason for you to become a model? My story may not be the most interesting, but let’s take it from the beginning … It all started about 4 years ago in Malmö, Sweden. For quite long time I nagged my mom that I wanted to be photographed. So on my birthday I got the opportunity to go to a studio (Heartland) and try to be a model for the day, and believe it or not but we signed a contract. I am very happy that I am a part of the journey that the agency has done! To be honest, I did not understand what they saw in me, because these first photos we took were terrible!

that just makes it even more valuable for you. Do you have a big support system? I definitely have the best support ever, my family is the best and I would certainly not be here today if it wasn’t for them. All the support from my closest friends has been amazing as well and I am the person which you see in front of you today just because of them. How do you see your style? What inspires you to dress your own special way? I don’t think I have any special style, but I do like to stand out and not look like everyone else. I get a lot of inspiration from America, because they really don’t care what people think. They dare to be how

I am so thrilled that they did, otherwise I would not be who I am today. I wanted to be a model, because I like that every day is a new challenge, attention, you feel like the most beautiful girl in the world when you got all those eyes on you during shows and on the cover of magazines. A lot of people only see the results and think that being a model is a dance on roses. Behind all of that fancy stuff, there is a real person and that person works extremely hard just to be able to do all of those things. So to answer the question, I guess I like challenges and to build up a steady carrier from the bottom is a real challenge, but

they want to be and it reflects their way of dressing themselves. I also get a lot of inspiration from some Swedish beauty bloggers that I follow. How do you usually prepare for a photo shoot? Before a photo shoot I like to just take it easy and try to get into character I have to play about. When I get my hair and makeup done then I really begin to understand that it’s almost show time and I usually put on my favorite music in my headphones and just try to stay as calm as possible. What is rewarding about modeling for you? The most rewarding thing about being a model is definitely all the traveling. I really love to travel to different places, I don’t mind sitting on a plane for a whole day. Now there is so many other things you can do on a plane and time just fly’s by. If you were not modeling what would you be doing? If I wasn’t a model, I would probably be a flight attendant or study to be a police officer. Thank you for your answers! Maybe you want to suggest something to those young ladies who desire and dream to become a model? I believe that if you only believe in yourself and you never stop dreaming you will get it. Nothing comes for free you have to work for it, especially in this type of work. I have a little motto I often follow: Dream it, Feel it, Do it.

Heartland Angel MISS FAYA FAYE Now we would like you to meet our models from USA. Our first model is African Queen, Top Model and Heartland Angel Miss Faya Faye!

Heartland Angel MISS ANNA KEI Our next model is Russian beauty, Top Model and Heartland Angel Miss Anna Kei! You have such a great look I am excited to interview you and learn more about you. Where are you from? I'm from Moscow, Russia. How was it growing up in Moscow, Russia? Do you believe that growing up in Russia the way that you did contributed to your modeling career now? Growing up in Moscow was quite nice. I can't call my childhood perfect, but my parents tried hard to give me as much as they could. I don't think the particular location where I was raised contributed to my desire to be a model or my modeling career. It most likely developed with wanting to prove to everyone, around me

who didn't believe in my powers, that I am capable of fighting for my dreams. Thank You for allowing me to dig a little into your background, so with that being said how did the lovely Ms. Anna get started? How were you discovered? I was discovered in sunny Spain. I love this country, my experience in modeling started there, in Madrid. Why did you want to be a model in comparison to any other career? I chose this career because I dreamt about it since I was 4 years old.

easy to contact, easy to work with, always willing to help and understanding. You have a natural beauty; do you consider yourself to have a natural style as well? What do you think makes an individual stylish? I think a stylish person has taste, a clear understanding of what is better to wear in a specific situation. Also he/she has to be creative and not scared of mixing colors. Describe your style when you are not on the runway or at a photo-shoot? My style outside the runway is classic and simple. I love to wear suits and dresses such as small black dress. (laughing)

My parents were extremely against it; their dreams were a little bit different for me. I love the feeling, you know, when you are walking the runway, to have thousands of eyes looking at you. Adrenalin! I do understand the feeling believe it or not, but modeling is not an easy field to get into not everyone is fit for the position. Why do you think you are fit to be a model? Of course, just having a pretty appearance and exact measurements is not enough for truly being a model. I have a fighter character with a bright personality which are important in this business. How is the Heartland Model Agency as a team? I like them; I think it's a great team. The team is

Be yourself and respect yourself, because otherwise you will start to lose your unique personality, which as I said is very important in modeling. Any plans for Fashion Week? Oh, I have great plans for this Fashion Week, but shhhhh... Oh, I now you have me curious and I am sure our readers will be curious as well. It was a pleasure getting to know you. Thank You!

How do you prepare for a photo-shoot? Oh, there are a lot of secret manipulations, but the most important, of course, is your attitude and mood. In my mind a person has to be happy with what he/she is doing and then the work will be just a pleasure. What would you say is rewarding about modeling and what you dislike about modeling? For women to be a model is a huge advantage, because you always have to be in good shape and look amazing. To be perfect is impossible, but you need to be very close to it to be able to work in this industry. On the other hand it’s very stressful, because models, like all human beings, are not perfect all the time. To get booked you have to be in the right place at the right time and in the right shape. I think it's quite difficult. What advice would you give to aspiring models?

Heartland Angel MISS DAYLYS Our next model is Miss Haiti 2013, Top Model and Heartland Angel Miss Daylys! Where are you from? I was born and raised in Haiti How was it growing up in Haiti? Growing up in different parts of Port-au-Prince and some of the country side of Haiti. For the most part, I enjoyed my childhood. We didn’t have much but my mother always found a way to provide the necessary things we needed to live. We moved around pretty often because she is an opportunity seeker. My father passed away before I was born and I was raised by a single mother.

modeling career but growing up in a household with a single mother has a lot to do with how persistent and driven I am? I don’t remember failing at anything I’ve decided to pursue. In fact, many people and agencies told me I would never make it in this industry. Some said I was too short, while others told me that I needed to lose weight.

Your determination is very admirable not a lot of individuals possess the quality. Thank You for sharing your background story. Tell me where did everything start for you in modeling? Where you were discovered? After so many rejections, I’ve decided to take a Your mother sounds like an amazing person. Do break from the industry to focus on my you believe that growing up in Haiti contributed educations. I attended borough of Manhattan to your modeling career now? If so How? community college and pursued Not only did growing up in Haiti contribute to my

an associate’s degree in business administration there. Then, I transferred to pace university to continue a bachelor’s degree in International Management. After graduation, I thought it was time for me to give modeling a second try and I am glad I did because my career just took off from there for the better. Why did you decide to sign with Heartland Model Agency? When I was in Romania at the Miss Models International beauty competition, I met some of the Heartland’s models from Swedish branch of agency. I asked her a lot. She spoke so highly about her agent and told me there is a Heartland branch in NYC. I submitted my pictures and measurements, got a reply and scheduled the interview. I met the agent in one of the modeling classes he offered. There I had a chance to see other models and take a class. After the class was over, I sat down and asked everything I wanted and then I signed the contract. I followed his directions and took his constructive criticisms which were not easy to do in the beginning. I realized those who followed what he says, booked the high paying modeling gigs.

So I decided to listen to him because he knows the industry. How is the Heartland Model Agency as a team? The NY team is great and we are like a big happy family. We make fun of each other all the time. (laugh) Do you have a big support system? I can genuinely say I do. There is no other agency here in NY where you see the agent going to casting calls with his models. He is always there to support us which makes us more confident. If one of the models wasn’t picked by a designer, he is always there to make him/her feel better. You have an amazing look are you naturally stylish? Not at all, but thank you! No, I am not naturally stylish. Well you may not think you have a natural style but your look is great, I love to see people who have a natural beauty, since you do not believe you are stylish. What do you believe makes a person stylish?

What I believe make a person stylish is whatever that person puts on and feel comfortable and sexy in.

I love tattoos; I don’t drink soda or juice, I scrub my body two times per week. I know how to keep a secret. (laugh)

Describe your style when you are not on the runway or at a photo shoot? Blue jeans and a tank tops are must-haves. Sometimes I wear a short dress but it depends on my mood.

Any plans for Fashion Week? Yes, I have some shows that I already booked which I am excited about.

How do you prepare for a photo shoot? Prepare for a shoot by washing my hair, get a manicure and pedicure. I shave the day before the shoot. I also scrub my skin with brown sugar and honey the morning of the shoot which makes my skin glow. What advice do you have for aspiring models? Stay focus, have self-discipline, determination, and drive. No one should stop you from pursuing your dreams except yourself. If you want to be good at something, you have to put the work into it. For modeling, look at other models from magazines and mimic them. Ladies, you don’t have to be a model to take runway classes because it shows you how to walk in heels and help your posture. If you were not modeling what would you see yourself doing? Modeling is not the only thing I do. Besides that, I have a home-based business that I love. Really? I am not going to take up your interview time, but I must know more about this business, you keep surprising me. What are four things that people would not typically know about you?

Thank you for your answers, have a great day!

Her signing me up for modeling classes at an early age is something I am so happy about. That’s good I can tell by the way your face lights up you are excited about it, that’s a beautiful thing, but that leads to my next question, why do you think you are a good fit for modeling? What separates you from everyone else trying to be a model? I think I am a good fit for modeling because I am passionate about it. I love everything from fashion shows to photo-shoots, I feel accomplished after I

promote us and provide us with training that any model needs to go to castings, etc. Ever since I joined the agency a little over a year ago, I feel that I have become part of the Heartland family. My journey with them has been nothing but awesome. Within the year of being with Heartland Model Agency I have learned so much about modeling and have booked multiple modeling gigs thanks to them! They have been nothing but wonderful. Do you have a big support system? Yes! My entire family has supported my modeling career, especially since I have been receiving many jobs recently. They are present at any modeling event I have, which is always nice. What would you say is rewarding about modeling? I think it is rewarding when you have just finished walking for a designer in a show, and you hear the thunderous applauds from the audience. This is an incredibly rewarding feeling, and I look forward to this moment at every fashion show that I walk in. In general, it is rewarding when a model is loved by the person they are working for, and when they make this person satisfied. This is very gratifying. What are a few things you dislike about modeling? Have your dislikes ever deterred you from doing certain things within modeling? I dislike the fact that, in this industry, you really need to get to know the right people; otherwise it is easy to get scammed. I am so lucky to have found Heartland Model Agency! Name 4 things about you that people would not typically know? I speak Romanian and Spanish, I have been cliffjumping before, I love anything spicy, and I’ve swam with dolphins!

People tend to look at models as picture perfect individuals that do not have any flaws‌so with that said. What is your biggest flaw and would you change it. I don’t know what my biggest flaw is, but I would change my lips by making them a little thicker. Any plans for Fashion Week? Not anything set as of yet, since September is still pretty far away. Of course I plan on participating in New York Fashion Week! Thank you for your answers any last comments you want the world to know? No, I think I have said it all! Thank you for the interview!

Actively Glamorous Summer Up-dos

- The side pony Fishtail: first start by spraying a teasing spray to the top of your roots. Then use the Spornette teasing brush to create volume in your hair. Section the crown of your hair into three parts. Individually holding the hair strands straight up and brushing down at the root of the hair. Repeat this for the other two sections. Once you have completed the teasing, comb the top layer to smooth out any knots. Then add hair spray for a nice hold. Now that the top of the look is finished, proceed by separating the bottom of your hair into two separate ponytails. Hold each of the pony’s in your hands. Then grab a strand from the bottom of one pony and add the strand to the top of the other pony. Continue this process, alternating sides until you have reached the bottom of a single fishtail braid! This look is great for a quick run or even a night out! - The Headband Dramatics: Just add a simply amazing headband to make any look be a little more GLAMOROUS - The Tres Chic Middle Part: Use a thin comb (Goodys Thin Comb), to part your hair down the middle. Wrap the loose hair in a low ponytail or bun. Make sure to hair spray your hair, to create a TRES CHIC look. - The Summers Sectional Pony: Start out with a middle part or slicked back ponytail. Also, make sure to have a handful of hair ties available. Depending on the length of your hair, you will be able to determine how many hair ties are needed. After your hair is in a normal pony, tease the entire ponytail. Then grab a hair tie and add it into the already teased ponytail. Make sure to keep at least an inch and a half of space between the two hair ties. Continue this process until you have reached the bottom of your ponytail. Finish your look with Hair Spray and walk out looking like a SUMMER GODDESS. - Effortless Teased Pony: Start by teasing your hair all over. Add a double wrapped headband and then put your hair up into a ponytail. Make sure that the tail of the pony is teased to perfection; once this is confirmed pin your ponytail into a messy bun. This will leave you with an Effortless Vogue look.

Hidden Beauty The Secrets to a hidden full face of make up, and emphasizing on a natural look ·BB Cream ·Mineral Foundation Powder and Blush ·Highlighter (Contour) ·A Thickening and Lengthening mascara ·A blush, rose, pale, or matte lip ·Moist Setting Spray depending on skin type

Before you begin to apply your makeup, make sure you have a Daylight makeup mirror. This lighting helps you see the amount of coverage you are really applying to your face. Now lets get started. First you will have a fully cleansed face. Once your face is washed, you will apply your moisturizer. After you have moisturized, evenly spread a BB cream over you face and neck, to your desired coverage. A great BB cream to use is Secret magic beautifier by L’Oreal Paris, it is about $8, so it wont break your bank. Once the BB cream is applied you will begin your contouring process. (This is my favorite part!) Contouring will allow you to highlight your most desired features, from your eyes, cheekbones, lips, and nose. For a brighter look, use an illuminating highlighter to start off with. My personal favorite is Armani’s. This will cost you about $62.00 dollars, but will last a very long time. Now you will apply the illuminating highlighter above your eyebrows, below your eyes, on both sides of your nose, and in the crescent of your top lip. Make sure to pat in the fluid to a perfect blend. Your next step will be to add a mineral bronzer. The bronzer will line the features and have them appear more defined. With your contouring brush blend the bronzer stroking upward. Once you have finished with the bronzer, grab a larger blush brush and add a mineral blush to your cheeks. This will give you a great refreshing look. Now for our final steps, make sure to curl your lashes and apply waterproof mascara to your already curled lashes. I recommend

buying Sheishido’s eyelash curler. It is only $19.00 dollars, curls beautifully, and does not pull at the lashes. As for mascara, I prefer a non-clumpy dramatic look; “They’re real,” by Benefit, for $23.00 dollars will do just that. Last but certainly not least, apply the perfect lip. Magnetic Nude by Mac, for only $16 dollars is a great matte lipstick, and the color works on most all skin tones. Complete the lips with a great gloss. For a little more dimension and color, I’d pair the nude lip with Mac’s Snob tinted Lipglass, it is $15.00 dollars and a must have! Voiá, you are done! Your hidden beauty look is complete! You are now ready for the gym or a night out, whichever you prefer. Oh, I almost forgot, you can never go wrong with a setting spray for your face. I typically use Urban Decay’s Setting Spray; it is $14.00 dollars and works perfectly. You will have your long lasting Natural Look all day and night. NOW WALLAH, your Naturally Hidden Beauty look is ACTUALLY complete. Congratulations! You are one step closer to creating your own “Vogue on the run Look”
