Angela Williams Angela Williams worked as a freelance photographer throughout the 1960’s with work published in numerous leading newspapers and magazines. Working closely with journalist Jeremy Banks, Williams photographed many of the iconic figures that defined the 1960’s including Paul Newman, Bill Wyman, Audrey Hepburn, Jane Fonda and Tom Courtenay, to name but a few. Her photographs have appeared in The Guardian, the Telegraph, The Observer, Women’s Mirror, Honey and, most notably, in the Observer weekly colour magazine, which was launched in 1964 as the UK’s first Sunday newspaper colour magazine supplement. The National Portrait Gallery holds several examples of Williams’ work in its collection, including portraits of the author Fay Weldon, actress Sarah Miles and the musician, Marianne Faithful. Alongside her own career, Williams was personal assistant to the legendary Vogue and Queen magazine photographer, Norman Parkinson, during the 1960’s. She now runs the Angela Williams Archive (AWA), a substantial collection of unique, vintage photographs by Norman Parkinson, which range in date from 1950-1964.
