La Trinidad R-220 wins Spanish 4-goal Championships La Trinidad R- 220, the team made up of Nicolás Álvarez, Nicolás Álvarez Cervera, Arturo Figar and Juan Álvarez, secured victory in the Spanish National 4-goal Championships, held from Friday May 23 to Sunday June 1 at Hacienda El Hoyo de la Trinidad. La Trinidad R-220 got their hands on the trophy that had evaded them last year (won by Aero-Capial at La Mata del Herrador) after their unbeaten run this year which was witness and enjoyed by a large crowd, particularly in the final stages of the tournament. Álvarez’s team secured the title on Saturday 31 following a great victory against Labrador, the team made up of Curro Rufino, Manuel Aguilar, Gabriel Iglesias and Carla Álvarez. This encounter would decide the winner due to the favourable points totals that

both teams had accumulated. As was to be expected the match was very hardfought and parity was present in each of the four chukkas played. In the encounter, Nicolás Álvarez Cervera and Gabriel Iglesias were the exceptional players for the champions and runners-up respectively. The first chukka finished level on 2 goals each and in the second La Trinidad stopped for half time with a slight lead (4-3). In the third chukka Labrador managed to draw level and enter the fourth and final chukka with the scoreboard on 5 each.
This was when La Trinidad took advantage of two balls intercepted in defence to gain a two-goal lead (7-5). With just a few seconds remaining an Iglesias penalty made the final score 7-6 in favour of La Trinidad. The champions rounded off a great tournament by adding the Fair Play trophy to their haul, awarded to their player Arturo Figar. The Aero quartet, with Javier and Tacho Benjumea, Jaime Serra and Jacobo Martinez-Conradi, achieved third place on the podium after beating La Isla in the final match on the Sunday.l
