Summertime is Well Child Exam Time!
Summer is upon us, and that means it’s time to call the Haxtun or Fleming Clinic to make annual exam appointments for your children. They’re free for most families with insurance.
If you have children or teenagers, it’s important they receive a general exam by one of the healthcare providers at Haxtun Health once a year Why?
“It’s a great, comprehensive way to ensure your children are healthy in all aspects of their lives,” said Rebecca “Reba” Bean, a primary care Physician Assistant
These exams take about 40 to 60 minutes and are sometimes referred to as “well child exams” because for the most part, they confirm that all is well. During the exam, your child’s provider will not only check their pulse, blood pressure, height, weight, growth, reflexes and other basic physical attributes. They’ll also examine the child’s eyesight and hearing. They’ll make sure your child is growing and developing at a normal rate for their age. They’ll discuss nutrition, physical fitness, emotional wellness and other health and safety issues. They’ll review any vaccinations you might want your child to receive to be caught up with recommended vaccination schedules, which continue through high school. And if you or your child have any concerns or questions about intermittent issues or development, there’s plenty of time during this exam to bring them up .
“Well child exams are a way for us to identify a potential problem sooner rather than later,” said Clinic Manager Natasha Wilson “And they help develop relationships among parents, children and providers so they’re comfortable coming in for future visits in case of illness or injury.”
If your child plays school sports and needs a Sports Physical Form filled out and signed so they can participate during the coming school year, just bring your school’s form with you to the exam. The nurse and provider will fill it out.
And if your child has medical insurance, including CHP+, one well child exam per child per year is almost always free—with no copay! This makes well child exams one of the best healthcare values going. To make an appointment for your child in Haxtun or Fleming, call 970-774-6187 .
