BRONZE COLLECTION The Bronze collection epitomises Haute Déco’s spirit of pared-down glamour, bringing a traditional material into the present with crisp modern lines and subtle finishes to chime with contemporary sensibilities. Purity of form is the guiding line, designed to give focus to the handles’ lush textures and extraordinary quality of finish. Luxurious patterns are fashioned like works of art, in a creative process that owes more to sculpture than to CAD. Design is influenced by Art Deco and the French 1940’s movement, with multiple sources of inspiration ranging from the roughly-hewn natural such as Driftwood, Bark or Fur at one end of the spectrum, to the sophisticated world of jewellery and fashion at the other. Each style resonates with its own vibe, as illustrated in pages 7 to 21 of this catalogue. A unique characteristic of the collection is the ability to coordinate doorknobs and levers handles on internal doors; recessed handles on sliding and pocket doors; pairs of statement handles – a company speciality – on floor-toceiling Push-Pull doors; and smaller handles on furniture and cabinetry. They can be ordered with a choice of back-plate: the original slim-line rectangular back-plate or a square back-plate with hidden fixings. AETHER SERIES SCULPTURAL CABINET KNOBS This self-contained capsule collection of six mini sculptures for cabinets explores the qualities of void or ‘opened volume’. At first sight, these small works of art appear to be a study in cubism, with each shaped into a slightly distorted cube. Then the eye is drawn to the interior, and the varied carvings of the voids is revealed. Designed as a set, the collection is intended to be used by combining designs to create a mini installation.

SENSATION COLLECTION Sensation door knobs are unlike any other, incorporating sculpted bronze elements encapsulated in Cristalle glass. The translucent wrap acts as a beautifier, adding a fluid quality to the bronze pattern. The motif, embossed in bronze, is reflected to the surface of the knob, seemingly filling the contour formed by the translucent resin so that the entire piece appears to be made of liquid bronze. Bringing together two strands of Haute Déco’s unique savoir-faire, Sensation door handles are truly in a league of their own. There are coordinated handles for doors and furniture including doorknobs in three different sizes, lever handles and cabinet knobs. All are available in soft gold, antique bronze and nickel.

SIGNATURE COLLECTION This iconic Contemporary-Classic door handles collection epitomises Haute Déco’s door jewellery concept of pared down glamour. Designed for understated sophistication, Signature handles are in tune with both contemporary and classic architecture. The collection started with the Coupole doorknob, an instant classic. This timeless design explores how metal accents are sublimated when refracted through a layer of cristalle glass. The concept relies on a unique savoir-faire developed at the company’s workshop in Hampshire, where we have honed the art of bronze inclusions in Cristalle glass. Bronze elements, plated and polished to a variety of metal finishes, are cast into Cristalle glass, a material perfected by Haute Déco: as translucent as the purest crystal yet extremely durable so that it will not chip, it can be cast around metal. The secret to its soft glow is in the multiple stages of the hand-polishing process. The collection has expanded to cover every category of decorative hardware from mortice doorknob to cabinet handle, with Solitaire and Signet cabinet knobs new for 2020.

DOORKNOB SPECIFICATIONS: WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS? By doorknob we generally mean a turning mortice knob used on internal doors to operate a latch mechanism by way of a square spindle. Turning mortice doorknobs (also called passage) are assembled with a round back-plate which is secured to the door with highquality plated wood screws in solid brass. It is also possible to order our doorknobs in a fixed version. Fixed doorknobs can be used either as a dummy on the slave door in case of double doors; or on Push-Pull doors; or on wardrobes or other situation requiring a large Pull knob. Fixed doorknobs can be supplied assembled with a round back-plate. Alternatively, we provide the option of supplying them without, in which case we modify the base so that it sits flush on the door. This configuration is especially recommended when fixed doorknobs are being used on glass doors. Note that we can provide a glass installation set including soft washers and a sleeve to house the fixing bolt. All the options above apply similarly to Sensation and Signature doorknobs.

COLOUR LIBRARY At Haute Déco, we’ve perfected the art of creating high-end knobs and handles in sophisticated colours. Whether you are looking for architectural neutral colours, strong mineral shades or bright hues, we’ve got the colour for you. Haute Déco is unique as a luxury handles specialist for having a colour library of over 100 colours. Our coloured glass handles are made primarily to order in our own workshop in Hampshire, thus we can produce any of our handles in any colour. The possibilities are almost endless. The following pages showcase an edited selection intended to give a flavour of what is possible, though of course our colours are best discovered in person at our showroom where the full range of colours is on display. With a few exceptions, we can generally produce any knob or handle from our collection in your chosen colour. Technically speaking, our colours belong to colour palettes, each defined by its own techniques, texture and finish. Every palette tends to have its own mood: our Gemstone inspired palette feels precious and jewellery like. The Lacquers offers subtle and sophisticated semi-opaque colours polished to a high sheen. Pop Art colours are bold and primary. Arctic colours are cool and composed. Whatever the palette, our colours are body tinted using combinations of pigments perfected over time; a unique feature is that our inserts are cast in for maximum strength and we use the best water clear cristalle glass for durability. All our handles are fastidiously hand-polished, usually in many stages, making them remarkably tactile.

LACQUERS COLLECTION Haute Déco is known for its extensive portfolio of colours, spanning a myriad of different styles, textures and finishes. Like Gems, Lacquer handles are at the sophisticated end of Haute Déco’s colour spectrum. They result from complex pigment combinations designed to achieve subtle contemporary colours, such as putty, Haute Déco’s version of taupe with a warm undertone. Ranging from subdued tones such as steel or graphite to bold Chartreuse or deep Plum, the Lacquers palette is a glamorous take on colour. Made from a hard-wearing polyester resin that does not chip, Lacquer handles are body-tinted, giving the colours depth and intensity. Each handle is hand-polished to a high gloss in the multiple stages required for a proper lacquer finish to reveal the true depth of the colour. POIGNÉE COLLECTION The first collection of door and cabinet hardware to be designed in-house, the Poignée collection was designed for Haute Déco by Christian Migeon, a pioneer of the use of resin in fashion and design. True to his bold, individual style where the primitive meets modernism, the collection consists of a series of fifteen cabinet knobs which can be coordinated with doorknobs and lever handles. Still fresh today, the collection is ideal for informal contemporary interiors, such as beach houses, chalets, and is particularly well suited to children’s bedrooms and playrooms. Three-dimensional, each organic design is shaped by hand during the polishing process, when the hallmark texture specific to Migeon’s design is worked onto the piece. In addition to conferring a stylish rough-hewn dimension to the handle, this uniquely tactile texture helps provide a good grip. In a process perfected over the last fifteen years, pigments are combined to secret recipes and inserts are cast in the resin for maximum strength. Production takes place at Haute Deco’s own workshops in the English countryside, by artisans trained by Christian to his exclusive savoir-faire. An extensive colour palette of over 60 colours was created by Migeon for Haute Déco, ranging from delicious tangy see-through colours to stone finishes and mineral shades. The original palette has been curated down to just under forty colours, and every design can be made to order in any colour. Colours work well in combinations for those who like variety.

Particular expertise lies in luscious bronze textures, and in encapsulating bronze elements into translucent resin to create doorknobs with hypnotic metallic radiance. Colour in all forms is another specialty, with an extensive palette of subtle and vibrant colours. Each collection has a unique vibe, from precious door jewellery to nature-inspired rough luxury. IMPECCABLE STYLING, INSPIRED DESIGN Effortless elegance underpins the collection built over twenty five years under the guidance of Marie-Véronique Swannell, Haute Déco’s founder and the creative force behind the company. A natural affinity for texture drives her sculptural approach to design, retaining the crucial sense of touch so that using a handle turns into a sensory experience. Purity of form gives focus to the extraordinary texture and quality of finish, adding an abstract quality to the design and leaving room for personal interpretation. Drawing inspiration from multiple contrasting spheres, Haute Déco’s collections complement a whole spectrum of styles from utter sophisticated glamour to rough-luxury aesthetics. Occasionally we are asked to customise our handles for special applications, for example adapting lever handles into window handles, or for the specific requirements of private yachts.
