Praemium Imperiale, 1993 Jasper Johns met Bill in autumn 1993 in Tokyo, where he was to receive the prestigious Praemium Imperiale for his work as a painter, while Bill received the equivalent award in the category of sculpture. Bill and I spent a week together with Johns and the other prize winners at the Hotel Okura and at various receptions held in their honor.
