Georges Vantongerloo Max Bill’s long-time close friend, the Belgian artist Georges Vantongerloo was a generation older and never made it to the U.S.A., although he did receive several prominent U.S. guests in his Paris studio, including the artist Ellsworth Kelly. The last major showing of his art in the U.S.A. was the retrospective in 1980.3
