A Word from the Commissioner World Gridiron is a project 20 years in the making. From the first time I saw the WLAF begin their second run of play in the spring of 1995, I was inspired to create my own league concept with colorful uniforms and unique identities. I consider that time as the moment I first fell in love with sports branding. This league took countless hours of iteration, attention to detail, and a drive to bring American Football to a global audience. This media guide serves as a commemoration of all the hard work that it took to allow this promising new league to take the field next spring.

THIS GAME JUST GOT GLOBAL. World Gridiron brings American Football to a global audience this spring with 16 teams facing off from ten different nations. World Gridiron divides its 16 teams into a two-conference format, each with two divisions. Mexico City will join the seven United States teams in the North American Conference, with eight International teams representing the World Conference. The inaugural season kicks off on February 22, and ends with the World Bowl championship game on July 15. The league is under a 3 year contract with the XSports Network and will broadcast a primetime feature game on Wednesday nights and two games each Saturday during the 2017 season.

The playoffs will match four teams from each conference in a seeded elimination bracket. The first two playoff spots from each conference are awarded to the division winners, with the following two spots given to the teams with the highest won/lost record in the conference, regardless of division.

The World Gridiron Logo The ‘Globe’ was inspired from the original WLAF logo, and the simplistic silhouette marks of Major League Baseball, the NBA and Arena Football. Simple, yet memorable; something that contrasts the illustrative style of the individual team logos.

Conference and Division Logos These marks are inspired from the NHL conference and divison shields from 1981-1993. Those divisions broke a paradigm in sports leagues by not naming them after specific geographical locations. World Gridiron’s conferences form an 8 to 8 split between North America and the rest of the World, hence the names. The divisions are named to reflect the regions in which the teams reside. “Frontier Division” is for the western U.S. and Mexico. “Legend Division” is named for the Eastern U.S., where American Football laid its roots. All four European teams form the “Conquest Division” as a nod to Europe’s history of monarchy. The “Dynasty Division” represents the two Asian teams, with Sao Paulo and Sydney rounding out the group.

EYES ON THE PRIZE The Commissioner’s Trophy By season’s end, the winner of the Inaugural World Bowl Game on July 22 will recieve the Commissioner’s Trophy. This brushed steel globe measures 12 inches in circumference and weighs approx. 16 lbs. The globe’s continents are simulated with meticulous detail with a sophisticated hydrochrome pigmenting system. The globe is a symbol of the worldwide unity that World Gridiron represents; 16 teams together in an effort to bring the great American game to a global audience. The steel represents the strength, solidarity, and resolve required to band together as a team and obtain the ultimate goal; a World championship. Game on.

AHITSHU™ YAMATODOME The Yamatodome is by far the best stadium experience in Japan. Electronics giant Ahitshu outfitted this stadium with a massive ultra-HD video board at the south endzone. The retractable roof is a luxury during summer games, and the view from every seat is virtually perfect. For mid-game munchies, try the spicy chicken sticks or the jumbo bento box brought right to your seat.
