Progress made on putting past behind at Peake Hall

In January, Tseshaht announced that Peake Hall, one of the dormitories of the Alberni Indian Residential School, would be dismantled....

Families have fun Family Fun Day- Was held on February 7, 2009 in Port Alberni at the Gyro Centre. We had many families attend, and make a variety of crafts. In addition to the craft making, there was a poster contest, Congrats to those who won. Poster Contest entries are in the foyer of our office, 4000 Stamp Ave, Port Alberni. Thanks to Angie Smith who helped organize the event as well as helping on the event day. Thanks, to Emily Thomas – Vancouver Island Rep. for the Federation for Aboriginal Foster Parents. Thanks, to the P.A.R.C. for the grant, making it possible to have the ‘Family Fun’ event.

How long have you thought of becoming a Foster Home (Resource Home)? And after a day when former students gathered to tear at the building with their own hands, the building looked rough around the edges, but still standing on Feb. 10... Someone even wrote a message on the side of the wall. “Long is the way and hard that out of hell leads up to light.” On March 24 (middle below), the workers were spending the last few hours of the day taking out of the building what could be salvaged, including copper pipes and fir beams...
