New for the 2018 season, all of the Hartman Cast Aluminium collection now comes complete with Weatherready® permeable cushions. During summer showers, the water resistant fabric simply allows water to bead and run off. During heavier persistent rain, water will also penetrate through the cushion’s sewing seams. Any water which penetrates the surface will flow through the permeable fabric, fully exiting through the mesh base beneath. Drying time will vary depending on local conditions. Come rain or shine, Hartman’s Weatherready® cushions can be left outside all summer long.

Container Planting Herbs Those few balmy days we get in summer really wouldn’t be the same without an ice-cold beverage of choice. For some it’s a classic British Pimms, for others maybe a zingy G&T but whatever your tipple – it’ll always taste better with a home-grown garnish. It’s so simple to plant a few of your favourites like mint and rosemary into a container, pop it in a sunny place on your patio and you’re in easy reach of freshly clipped herbs when you need them most. Not to mention the fantastic scents they’ll give off that’ll have your BBQ guests salivating before you’ve even fired up the grill! Nearly all herbs simply need sunlight and well-drained soil, so a container with good drainage is a must. Don’t forget to water regularly during dry spells in summer.

Outdoor Living It’s wonderful to have a garden. To have an outdoor space where you can go to relax and recharge those batteries, or entertain friends and make great memories. For children, a garden is a playground of endless possibility, and for adults, it is an oasis of peace and tranquillity away from the pressures of the modern day. Spending time outdoors and with nature has even been proven to benefit our mental health and reduce anxiety and stress, so what better excuse to spend more time in the garden? As the weather starts to pick up, many of us will be dusting off our gardening tools and BBQs, already looking forward to the warmer weather ahead. It’s a lovely time of year to treat yourself to some new garden furniture as well, because you can start enjoying it pretty much straightaway. If you are thinking of refreshing your outdoor furniture, why not consider incorporating a few different zones to add interest and better utilise the space you have? For example if you have a very large patio area, you could have one area for dining, and another for relaxing. For smaller gardens, you might tuck a little bistro furniture set behind a tree for an exclusive coffee getaway; gardens appear bigger when you can’t see the whole thing at once. You could also help to make your garden seem larger by adding reflective elements such as outdoor mirrors, and hanging baskets to draw the eye upwards. Many people simply have one set of garden furniture close to the house and rarely venture deeper into their garden, which is missing a trick because you would never buy a great big house and only use one room. You might find you have a suntrap tucked away at the end of the garden, perfect for enjoying a glass of orange juice, or a narrow bit of empty space that’s crying out for a hammock or swinging garden chair. Don’t miss out on the rest of your wonderful garden!

Outdoor Entertaining There’s recently been a real resurgence in outdoor entertaining, so beat the rest this year by adding in some extra touches to your space, such as a fire pit, bar area or even a little outdoor kitchen! There are some great DIY options for building your own, and you can create nifty little wall-mounted foldaway bar by upcycling old indoor furniture or wooden pallets – a real space saver for smaller gardens. Don’t forget to add some ambient lighting for a special touch to your alfresco evenings, fairy lights and hanging lanterns are always a crowd pleaser. With these extra little touches, your outdoor dining area can become something really special.
